Does Costco still sell iPhones in store? I’ve always wondered how this works. Our carrier is Verizon. If they still carry them is there any benefit to purchasing through Costco then directly from a Verizon store??? Will Costco activate and get them user ready before you leave the store?
I’ve purchased Droid/Verizon phones from Costco, and they were activated before we left the store. Benefit of buying there was we got an extra package of accessories and it happened to be convenient. I don’t know if they still sell iPhones or not.
Dunno–bought iPhone at Apple Store so that it could be used with all carriers with NO plan at the time of purchase. I believe Sam’s Club sells iPhone. No idea I’d Costco does.
We bought 4 of the last 5 IPhones in our family through Costco. The kiosk in Costco is actually run by a third party. They offer plans and phones for both Verizon and ATT. The accessories package I found wasn’t anything great but they do sell the Square trade warranty with a lower deductible. What I hated was that they don’t have enough staff and no chairs to sit while you wait.
Haven’t checked lately but our 4 iPhones were purchased at Costco (with carrier Verizon), because of the extra accessories for the same price. We also bought AppleCare. (We once bought square trade but had a major problem with them during a claim.) They quickly set up/transferred to the new phones.
Thanks for the responses. I’ll be stopping at a Costco tomorrow and will try to see what they have to offer. Like you all mentioned, a couple times i have stopped they have had customers (this was a while back) and I’m not good at waiting.
We have had the opposite experience with Squaretrade. We have had two phones that needed repairs. In one they sent her a new phone and she had to send the broken phone back. The other had a cracked screen. Squaretrade sent her to the Apple Store for the repair.
My S had a TV he bought from Costco and also had a Squaretrade warranty bought through Costco. They sent a repairman out to his house and fixed the TV without any hassle.
@abasket - if you have an Apple Store it might be an easier experience. You don’t save on the cost of the phone at Costco. I would ask what the accessories package is. It changes from time to time and see if it’s worth the wait. I do like that Costco sells a screen protector and will put it on for you.
I had a problem with an iPhone bought at Costco and was able to return it, no questions asked, because it was still within a month. I don’t know if Apple would take a phone back within a month, or require you to send it in/take it to the store, etc. (this was a couple years ago and I’ve forgotten the details but I had taken the phone to Verizon for them to fix (it was a software problem), they couldn’t fix it and told me to go the the Apple Store. I went back to Costco instead. Returned the phone and bought a new one the same trip. New one performed just fine.). So I would compare return policies.
The booth is costco here is third party. it isn’t a costco thing at all.
yes, but still worth checking out their return policies vs. Apple or carrier stores.
Looking to buy an unlocked iPhone - with no plan. What’s the best place to get one of these?
New or refurbished? We bought kiddos’ new unlocked iPhones at the Apple Store, but that was eons ago.
https://www.att.com/shop/wireless/devices/prepaidphones.html
Att prepaid also sells some models
We bought ours at the Apple Store as well. We wanted to be sure the phone had all the parts of could work with any phone system we chose later. We had an old iPhone we bought with Sprint plan. Even after being unlocked it couldn’t properly work with all carriers in US. We didn’t want that problem again.
We currently use T-Mobile but don’t want to be tied to them.
We purchased our 6s a year and 10 months ago.
Thanks! Spent some time looking around and there isn’t much of a difference picking up the phone on ebay vs buying the phone at the apple store, especially refurbished. I think I’ll go with the apple store - just to be safe.
I bought my iPhone at the Apple Store as well. First time, I got it through ATT…but that was for ATT!
My current phone is unlocked…and that’s what I wanted.
I will say…it annoys me no end that I get NO monetary credit from ATT for NOT using one of their phones. In other words…I’m paying the same per month as if I had upgraded through them. Annoying.
