Costco pie question

How long before Thanksgiving Day can I buy a Costco pumpkin pie? If I buy it on Sunday and refrigerate it until Thursday, will it be okay? I’m not able to get to Costco during the week.

Should be absolutely fine. The pie should have a “sell by” date on it. Just pick the freshest, of course.

Apple probably has a longer “sell by date” than the pumkin.

The apple with caramel is pure heaven! :)

They’re all very good. I’m buying an apple and pumpkin this year because I just don’t feel like making them myself. Only a few family members eat them and we’ve been so busy something had to give. The pies were it. But Costco has its HQ here so I’ll get them plenty fresh.

Just got home from Costco. I have to get a pumpkin pie because someone else is bringing apple. The latest “sell by” date on the pumpkin was 11/19. The bakery lady said I could freeze it until I was ready to use it so I went ahead and bought one. I hope she was right.

I’m also making a chocolate cheesecake-type dessert that goes into a Keebler chocolate Ready Crust. I can’t find one anywhere. I searched three supermarkets today and all they have is graham cracker crusts! What’s up with that?

My mom had this out-of-this-world recipe for a chocolate mousse pie that had a crust that was made with the Nabisco Chocolate Wafer cookies like this (dont order these–they are overpriced) [Nabisco Famous Chocolate Wafers - 9 oz in Cookies | Hometown Favorites Hard to Find and Regional Grocery - Hometown Favorites](http://www.hometownfavorites.com/nabisco-famous-chocolate-wafers-9-oz/) You crush about 3/4 of the box and melt some butter or stick margarine (i’ll have to look up the exact amount) and you smush them onto a pie pan (we use glass pyrex) . Works great and very yummy!!

The wafer cookies are often shelved with the ice cream cones in the supermarket, if you dont see them with the regular cookies.
I also thought about frezing the pumpkin pie. Glad that will work.

It’s easy to make a chocolate crust. Get some chocolate wafer cookies…make into cookie crumbs. Blend with butter just like you do for a graham cracker crust. I add a teeny bit of cinnamon to mine too. Press into a pie pan…poof…chocolate pie crust.

X posted with Jym!

Thumper and Jym, I thought about that when I was looking for the Keebler crust. I couldn’t find the wafer cookies, either! I know they’re usually kept near the ice cream but everything was moved around because of all the holiday stuff and I couldn’t find them. Tomorrow I’m setting out again on a quest to find either the ready made crust or the chocolate wafers. Target might have them.

Last I looked for them in Publix they were on a top shelf in the cookie aisle

If you can’t find wafers, I think you can use Oreos. Or chocolate Teddy grahams.

I’ve also used chocolate graham crackers.

In my neck of the woods, the chocolate wafer cookies are in the cookie aisle.

I like pumpkin pie all year long.
We bought one last Saturday (a week ago) and they are so large there is still half left.
Just had a slice before posting.
Still tested great.

PS: In my experience, the “sell by” date means nothing.
I never pay attention to it.

They don’t sell that at my Costco anymore.
They stopped about three years ago. :(

WAAAHHH! Probably the last time I bought one was in 2005, which was my D’s last Thanksgiving at home.

Oh well. Nothing stays the same, does it?

Does anyone else remember the volcano apple pies they used to have? Talking about 15+ years ago. They were so good. Also there was a year they had GIANT cream puffs in the fresh bakery department. Obviously, baked goods & I are close friends…

:)
Oh I remember…

All I know now is I’m hungry for pie. Any flavor will do. Darn CC enablers. :(
