Costco Shopping - Are You Like "Mom"?!

Cute article about a younger woman following her mom around Costco shopping and her mom’s top tips - how many of these do you do? Other tips of our own??

Like “Mom” I have wanted to buy that jar of fig jam! It’s just A LOT of fig jam!

I also really like their bags of greens - I buy a different variety each trip and that is the type of greens we eat for that week.

Ditto on the brussel sprouts and sugar snap peas! I buy one and we focus on that veggie for the week - the peas raw and stir fried - had the brussel sprouts last night!

Divide the ground beef up - yep - love that I have some stocked in the freezer.

Frozen cherries are my lifeline - they have that big bag for like $9.99 - a trio of cherries - no sugar - I eat them every morning with yogurt or cottage cheese.

Guess I’m kinda of a good Costco shopper - just like this “mom”!!!

Is there supposed to be a link here?

You all probably thought…“has abasket LOST it!!!”

HAHA

What a great article! She is so right about buying produce for two people: it forces you to eat healthier. Love her choices! Those jams are yummy (I buy a jar once a quarter - it lasts us so long).

No, I was just wondering if I was supposed to know who “Mom” is.

When my grandmother was 90, she bought a case of sardines at Costco because she liked to have a sardine sandwich “once in a while” (i.e. couple of times a year). I always thought that was the very definition of optimism.

@nottelling, I guess that makes my father-in-law the very definition of pessimism: Once he turned 70, he stopped buying green bananas.

The article just emphasized for me why I don’t buy large quantities of anything. H and I like a lot of variety in our meals, and using the same products over and over all week, no matter how well disguised, would be grim for us. I also have to wonder whether the nutrient value in raw produce doesn’t decline after three weeks in the refrigerator, and I can’t even imagine what magic “mom” uses to keep produce edible that long. The “use by” dates on the packaging of lettuce mixes, for example, never go anywhere near that far out.

I’m sure “Mom” supplements her Costco buys with trips to the supermarket for fresh salad greens in between her Costco raids. Costco is the closest grocery store for us, so we go there every 4-5 days.
