Couch tray table

Now, that I am working from home, I find myself sitting on the couch with my laptop a lot more. Was thinking of getting one of the couch tray tables - something that fits in next to or slides under the couch and can be used to keep the laptop. Any recommendations?

I like this one on amazon, but wondering if any of the cheaper options are just as good.

Personally I’d rather have one that doesn’t need to be anchored to the floor - something more like this - https://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Huddersfield-End-Table-Sofa-Laptop-Tray/30537872/product.html?refccid=E76SQKHZTAJKRB2D77TCJHITPE&searchidx=19&option=55021863&kwds=tray%20table&rfmt=

I would get something designed to be a laptop table, able to be tilted, and adjustable to help save your back and arms, rather than a fixed position table.

Ohhh! I like that one too @Marilyn

Yes. I was going to suggest a lap desk. Looks like a good choice.

Those swivel tables are not ergonomically correct, and those side tables as above are generally very flimsy (the top is typically not attached to the leg piece; you need a heavy chunk of granite or other material for these tables to be sturdy which then makes them $$$).

@Marilyn 's suggestion also gives you the chance to use it as a standing desk - that’s a PLUS to me!

I have had both the type that rests on the couch and the type that is freestanding. The problem with the couch one is that you have to lift it up/off to get up. This can be an issue if you use materials (pen/pad/etc.) in addition to your laptop - or if you like to have a glass or snack on the table as well.

So, I would recommend the freestanding kind, particularly one that is height adjustable. I would select the largest work surface as it allows use of an external mouse, etc.

Something else to consider - be sure to get the measurement from the floor to the top of the base to ensure that the base will fit under your couch. Mine does not, which is fine for me as I don’t sit on the couch…

I do have a lap desk and while I like it, I have the problem that @HMom16 mentioned. I have to lift the desk with my laptop, book, pen etc and put it aside before I can get off the couch. I have a side table on the side of the couch, but found that I was twisting awkwardly to look at the laptop on the side, causing some serious back pain!

I’ve switched to using our basement office during the day - but would still like a better table solution for when we use the couch.
