One major factor that plays into may college decision is how good the sports are, mostly football. I know FSU would be a sick nasty school to go to for football. I have a 3.3-3.4 gpa with no honors or AP’s and my SAT’s are 1130. I am tkaing 2 honors this year as a senior and I plan to increase my SAT’s. I have very little EC’s, just freshman track and football. I have done some community service and have been employed throughout high school at numerous jobs. I am a white male out of state student. Whats my chances?

Uhh, you want to choose a school predominately for their football program? Poor choice, my friend. Pick the college that most benefits you in your future long-term goals. As for your stats, you might be middle quartile on GPA, so you’re gonna have to retake the SAT once or twice to get that score up. 1130 isn’t going to cut it, sorry man. I originally scored 1130 myself before retaking it and scoring 1240 the second time around (and this was three years ago). Don’t worry too much about EC’s - I was only in band and a few clubs in H.S. and still got into the Big Two. Plus my GPA was around yours unweighted (although I was an IB student) and as I stated previously, we had nearly identical SATs the first time around. Then again, I’m sure the admission standards have risen since my freshman year, so who knows.

So in short, get your SAT into the 12-1300 range and hope for the best. And explore some other schools for their academics and programs of interest, not sports.

Very much borderline at 1130 unless you can show some compelling coursework.

1130 and 3.3 GPA, how is that not a solid FSU admit? You should probably drop your SATs by 200 points to make it even a contest with other kids, you’re in.

We’re referring to Florida State, not UF. A 930 may be do-able in Gainesville, but not Tallahassee.

However, if the student wants only a football program maybe UF is a better fit.

Tim Tebow got into UF with an 890 SAT score.

Maybe you should also apply to UF, they seem to have lower standards these days. With your stats, you could probably get a full ride at UF and also get into the honors college.

yea tim tebow was one of the best qb’s coming out of high school. he doesnt need to get a 1300 on his sats. and im not jsut looking for football its just that cherry on top

There were a number of other kids who applied to FSU this last session with 20+ point higher SAT scores and grades. They were either not admitted or allowed only Summer.

I suggest you retake the SAT after some preparation and work on the courses you’re taking. Take as many APs as you can.

An 1130 is unlikely to make it under current trends.

If FSU cuts freshman enrollment by 15% it will become even more difficult.

do you think they will still cut freshman enrollment? didn’t they pass the bill they wanted?

No idea. Why take the chance? Prepare now.

I’d suggest looking at the last 5 years of common data set information and the new information that will come online sometime here soon.

http://www.ir.fsu.edu/surveys/surveyinfo.cfm?ID=t_commondata

Beyond the noise of the legislation and freezes which adds a bit of a wild card to next year and future years, due to the glut of applications and the number of excellent students that are applying admission’s to Florida colleges such as UF, UM, FSU, UCF, New College admissions are and will be very competitve. It will be very hard to get in if you aren’t able to show that you are a top notch student. I would suggest making an early appointment with your guidance person along with the excellent suggestions already given to discuss your plan and what your chances might be to several colleges.

You MUST know how ridiculous that makes you sound, right?

Just using absurdity to illustrate something absurd. An 1130 and 3.3 is not a sure admit to Florida State; likewise and especially not a 930. I would think that obvious.
