Could I get in to UPenn?

SAT: Taken Twice First time 1990 (590 CR, 680 M, 720 W) Second Time (700 CR 800 M 690 W)
Unweighted GPA: 3.86
Number of AP Classes in all 4 years: 10 (excluding 2 lab periods)
Class Rank: Unsure but most likely top 10 students out of 670
EC: not too many I mostly focus on Model United Nations and Tennis and do show leadership qualities in them but that’s all I do because that’s all I love and have no volunteering or work experience
Asian, no legacy, over $100,000 salary, second generation college student
I do plan on doing early decision

oh and for SAT II: 770 in Math 2, 700 in US History, 710 in Bio but I do plan on retaking Bio and History to get 750+

You could get in, but colleges especially of that caliber, tend to care about your activities outside of school once you get to that level. No volunteering at all could hurt you somewhat, at our school students are required to do a minimum of 10 hours each year to graduate, simply because it has been recognized as important quality colleges look for in students. Sticking your passions and leadership is smart, but I’m wondering if you are slightly limiting yourself. Anyways, your GPA and class rank are certainly nothing to joke about it, so I’d say you still have a shot. Good luck!

Your stats are in line, but Penn is a reach for everyone these days.

Thanks for your input Shawn, and do you think it would be a good idea to start volunteering now or would that just sound foolish since I’m applying this Fall.

Volunteering is not a requirement, and to start now would look like resumé padding. Focus on your current EC’s and write some stellar essays.

Thanks skieurope
