Could I get into LSA with my low GPA?

Here’s the thing you want to consider, Mike25 – it sounds from your GPA like you have difficulty testing due to your LD, with ample native intelligence as demonstrated on your SAT.

UMich certainly has accommodations after a fashion for LD students, BUT they first have to be convinced that you’re CAPABLE of succeeding at their school. This may be a bit of a hard-sell considering your GPA, but your “trend” for improvement is promising.

There is a counselor located right in Ann Arbor who can privately coach students with LDs and has worked successfully with UMich students – you may wish to consult her to see if there are strategies you can use on taking more successful tests. For example, are you using extra time? Do you qualify for same?

At any rate, the counselor is Geri Markel – and she’s also the author of a great book for students with learning disabilities – here’s her site, hope it helps you find resources: [About Managing Your Mind: Managing Your Mind](http://www.managingyourmind.com/about.html)

Also, transferring is a great option and yes, you would stand a solid chance if you maintained a high GPA and got good letters of reference.

BTW, my son has an LD, and had to really gut it out times at UMich, but he loved it, so it was worth it. Just remember you’ll be among students who are equally bright or brighter, but who do work WAY FASTER than some people with LD’s are able to, so you might find you struggle a bit to keep up and manage the workload.

Also, to receive accommodations from UMich, you will ALSO need a NEW neuropsych evaluation as an adult (at age 18) or you will NOT be entitled to accommodations. So plan for that, and make your parents aware, as it is costly.

If you’re accepted, and then eligible for LD accommodations (they won’t accept your evaluation until you’re accepted, btw) then you will be eligible for things like a coach for cognitive behavior mod for organizing your workload; notetakers; assistive devices, etc. depending on the specific results of your neuropsych evaluation.

Best wishes!
