Could I get into these schools?

Unweighted: 3.07
Weighted: 3.34

Terrible, I know. I was tossed between divorced parents throughout high school, one in Washington state and one in Florida. The credit requirements are massively different between these states. Took a pretty big toll on my academics.

I have not taken my SAT yet, but I’m registered for the January Test.
I took an official (3 hrs. 45 min.) practice test on CB and received the following:

Math: 530 (Obviously not applying to MIT here. Hopefully raise this to 580-600.)
Critical Reading: 600
Writing: 720

Totaled at an 1850, but my Math/CR is low. I’m studying intensely. This was also my first time taking an SAT-like test, hopefully it’ll come a little easier next time.

ECs include:

Member of the Model United Nations (11, 12)
Member of Earth Corps (11, 12)
Member of Gay-Straight Alliance (9, 10, 11, 12)
Member of Art History Club (9, 10)
Member of Community Outreach Club (9, 10)
Member of the Robotics Club (11)
Leader of the 2008 Mock Election Committee (12)
Student Government, 10th Grade Representative (10)
Attended Biomedical and Environmental Science Magnet - was assessed & accepted. (11)
Did well in three AP classes, however I only received 1/2 credits because I moved midyear.
AP United States History (11)
AP English Language and Composition (11)
AP Environmental Science (11)
Chosen by the Principal to represent my high school at the HOBY Leadership Seminar (10)

 1. Peer education,
 2. Political lobbying,
 3. Minimum of 55 hours of work and research,

I plan on applying to FSU, UCF, USF, FIU, and UMiami. Could I get in?

I want to major in Political Science and International Relations.

I’m also going to apply to American University. I know I won’t get in, but better safe than sorry. I plan on transferring to there after a year or so. Could I do this if I do well at one of the above schools? School in DC would be perfect for my major - OXFAM has headquarters there as well, my ideal place for an internship.

Going to apply to Tulane, too…out of my reach, I know. My father is an alumni though, would that carry any weight?

Long post. Think I have a shot at any of these places?

Thanks in advance!

Oh, and I’m a Caucasian female.

FSU, FIU, UCF, USF are possible, but you might get deferred because of rising standards. Miami is almost impossible, sorry. Have you considered Florida Atlantic, you could get in there. I have a friend with a high 2-something who got in.

Might I ask where in Florida you are?

Yeah, I’m bent on not going to FAU…I was hoping I could do better. Plus, I’d much rather be in Orlando or Tallahassee. Or anywhere but Boca, really.

I live in North Miami Beach :)

Since you’re from Florida, would you happen to know if having Florida prepaid is going to affect my chances?

Not sure, as I’m not applying to anywhere in Florida. Don’t think it should affect you though.

(char) bump :D

FAU was actually pretty selective last year, denying a good number of people and putting others on a waitlist. FAU gets more popular every year.

For Fall 2009 the overall freshman GPA was 3.42 with an honors college GPA of 4.04. Overall avg SAT 1602 with an honors SAT 1903. We had 5 valedictorians and 2 salutatorians enroll this Fall.

No application with less than a 2.6 GPA was accepted and it’s being bumped up to a 2.8 minimum cutoff to even be considered for admission.
