Hello,
I am looking into colleges (Sophomore year, I know its early but I want to start planning ), I was just wondering could I get into a good American College/ University (Colleges like Virgina tech, Gorgia tech, etc) For Computer Science?
Current grades/ specs/ Extra Curricular:
AP Computer Science (sophomore)
Hoping to take AP Physics next year (Junior year)
Hoping to take AP Chemistry (Junior year)
2.5 GPA
B+ Average
FRC Robotics Programmer
Thanks.
A 2.5 GPA is not a B+ average…
Apologies 3.5 (didnt notice that)
^ That is a big difference. GPA 3.5 is at the border line for these schools, nevertheless, your test score is still needed to see your chance.
At this point it’s extremely hard to tell. Focus on studying for standardized tests (SAT, ACT, subject tests) and extracurricular activities that you truly love. That’s the best advice anybody can give you right now. Junior year is where the AP stress and really important tests come in, so post again in 2 years and people will give you a better assessment.

Are you an international student?
If so and you are outside the US, start by reading through the information here: https://educationusa.state.gov/ When you have done that, follow the links to find the contact information for the Advising Center closest to where you live. The counselors there can help you with the whole process.
Whether you are a US student or an international student, the best thing you can do right now is talk with your parents about how they plan to pay for your education. The sooner you know how much money is available, the sooner you can start looking for places that might be affordable.
With a 3.5 and a 1300 (M+CR) SAT score, I’d say Virginia Tech is a match. I think GaTech will be difficult for you especially if you are not a URM. I’m not sure how strong your EC’s are, but mine were weak (did the basic volunteering and was a treasurer of one club). I got rejected from GaTech with a 3.75 UW and a 2130 for EE. GaTech certainly got more competitive the last 2 years.
@happymomof1 I am not an international student (I have an American residency card but a British citizenship/passport) not really sure if that helps or hurts my chances at all?
Are you attending an American school or a British school?
I am attending an American High School
If you are a legal permanent resident, except for a tiny number of scholarships that are only available for citizens, you will be treated just like a US citizen in the application and financial aid process. Since you are studying in a US high school, your own guidance counselor is the person who is best positioned to tell you where you are likely to be admitted. Normally, high school guidance offices keep detailed records of this information.
