could I say this?

Is it okay to “suck up” to Columbia in the “what do you find appealing” essay.
Saying something like:

Describing anything about Columbia as merely appealing is understating it. Everything is appealing, but there are some things that are even more appealing.

In a fashion, all you’re saying is “everything! and I don’t want to decide”

C doesn’t need sycophants – but people who can verbalize a salient aspect.

Sounds like you don’t know the answer. The wise kids give well considered responses.

that’s not all I’m saying in the essay obviously… that’s just how I’m starting it. "But there are some things that are even more appealing than the rest. … then I go into specifics

I’m just asking if its okay to start it like that, or if the admission people will look at it badly

humpty BUMP-ty fell off a wall

nope never say that dude otherwise they will throw your app out the window…

Focus on ONE trait that you find appealing. Of all things that you like about Columbia, which one do you love most? Write about that thing.

I would not (and did not) start my response with that. “Go into specifics” immediately.

I mentioned the typical reasons–the Core and NYC–but added a spin to them.
