Could I transfer to emory?

I’m a freshman at Centre college in Kentucky right now. Last year, usnews had it ranked #42 national LAC.

For a lot of reasons, I want to transfer. I would LOVE to go to Emory.

HS STATS:

3.89/4.0 unweighted GPA (8 AP classes)
29 ACT
5/109 class rank

College GPA: 3.52

what would my chances look like as of now? I’m not saying I could get 4.0s for the next two semesters, but I know I could raise my GPA if I waited another year for junior transfer. But if I could transfer now, that would be ideal.

Also, what would my chances be at Vandy? Better or less than emory?

I think you have a decent chance. Emory and Vandy admit a solid amount of transfers. I would say your stats. are fine (you could have maybe gotten into Emory via freshman admissions), and your College GPA is alright too. Just apply and find out. I think Emory used to admit the same amount of transfers as Vandy, but now Emory may admit a smaller percent (probably not too much smaller though), perhaps because its freshman enrollment has grown a bit over the past 5 years (thus making less room for transfers, especially if they are sophomores who must be guaranteed housing).

Also, I don’t know why the rank of your school matters. Students are admitted from all types of colleges (community, state flagship, regular state, etc…). I think they are mainly interested in those who legit want to come and can handle the work. You can clearly handle the work, and claimed you wanted to come. Show it in the application. Also, I’m going to guess you visited both Emory and Vandy. They are two completely different schools in atmosphere. Both are great academically (though different), but they are different and I think you should be aware of this as many students will clearly like the atmosphere at one over the other (As in, many Vandy student may respect Emory, like its campus, and stuff, but would certainly not like the academic/social atmosphere enough to attend. The very same could be said for many Emory students with regards to Vandy). Don’t rush this, think about it.
