(I will pretty much have enough credits for a Math Minor by the end of Senior year)
(I am also singed up for a few organic chemistry classes, but I will probably cancel them unless the schedules are changed)

ECs: Part of Science Olympiad. Part of Physics Club. Tutor in Calculus, Chemistry, and other sciences and maths (volunteering).

Research:
Carleton Summer Science 10th grade summer
I have applied to a few research programs for my 11th grade summer. Acceptances come back soon. I hope.

Also part of UMTYMP mathematics program at University of Minnesota.

So. I have another question upon this.
Will colleges look down upon my poor GPA? Or will they understand that I am taking all of the toughest classes offered at both my school and the nearby university at the same time and look over any mediocre grades that I have?

Upon that, how much do extra curriculars count?
I am planning on joining the speech team in my senior year. I will probably be the leader of the physics club in my senior year. And I will definitely be the captain of the Science Olympiad team in my senior year… And I will also probably have at least 150 tutoring volunteer hours by then…

So. Given this. What are my chances? For MIT especially (it’s my dream school).

ECs are extremely important, and looking at your ECs they are extremely bland. You are spending a bunch of time on courses but not enough on other stuff. and its kind of obvious to colleges if you join a club senior year as to just put it on for college

Thank you Rurouni

I was wonder just how much Extra Curriculars count to these colleges…
I never had a real chance to take EC’s, because most of the clubs that I have joined (and now lead (pretty much only science olympiad :))) were formed after I came to my school.

On that note. Our science olympiad team has made it to state competitions this year, and actually won second place in regionals. It is not a huge achievement, but it is amazing considering how few students we have.

I was wondering if stating that our team made it to the state competition would make my application look any better…

And should I list and minor awards? For example, I won 3rd place in Forensics and Genetics in our regional competition. Would that be a worthy inclusion?

Anyways. Thank you very much for your time and advice.

Your GPA is still pretty high and considering the courses that you are taking, it’s fine. However, you have nothing that is unique. To be frank and candid, you are just another regular applicant to these schools. Find something that makes you unique and that you love.

Sure, but to be quite frank, it wont make that big of a difference to top tier schools. OP, you missed your chance to show leadership; if there aren’t many clubs you should have started them and gained vital leadership positions

Academically, you are very strong. For UMN, it should be a safety for you. UCB and UCLA should be matches. For the other top schools, you probably should invest more on your EC to demonstrate your passion and leadership. Those schools are not short of 4.0/2400/36 candidates.
