Could someone please explain the Housing 'Programs' that are offered?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of choosing a specific program???

What if you choose ‘No Program’…then what happens?

Is it separated by those in specific programs? For example, your roommate will be in the same program as you…or your whole floor/building?

Here’s the site:

If you choose No Program, you end up like me, and… nothing happens. haha The programs are really just based on your own interests. If you really want to be challenge, join the Davis Honor’s Challenge. Someone else care to elaborate?

I’m in the Davis Honors Challenge. It’s really NOT challenging, but you do get a little deeper into the topics that you study in classes. You also get to register earlier for all your classes (same priority as Seniors). I wouldn’t join it the first year, you can always join after your 1st year (this is because you have requirements you need to fulfill your first year, if you join your 2nd year you don’t need to worry about the 1st year reqs, and since you’ll be living off campus 2nd year, the DHC computer lab is definitely great to have since the wait at the “normal” ones are hella long; free printing too!!!). If you don’t choose to join it now (before your freshman yr), you need to apply some time during your freshman year, and write a few short essays…if you miss this you can never join. The program lasts up to your senior year, but many people leave or get kicked out before this happens. The new GPA requirement is 3.2+ cumulative in college, and there’s a number of courses you need to take. Have fun during your first year at Davis!

So the Honors Program is basically added stress (since you have to take certain required courses??? Which means more invested money???) What are the disadvantages???

If you do join a program, is it like a clique? Meaning that you stay around the SAME people all of the time?

Is it binding??? If you don’t like it, can you switch out?

Also, I know this is trivial, but is the Asian-American Program full of JUST Asians? Also, what does it mean by Asians? More Oriental? (Like Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean?)

What about the Health Science Community? Extra stress?

…Anyone?

BabyBlue, no. They’re residential programs; thus, to participate in the residential program, you have to reside where the program is…

That sucks…

So should I:

Join The Honors Challenge at segundo, the place I want to go to.

OR

Join the Health Society, and reside in a place where I don’t want to go to (Cuarto)? The only reason I want to join the Health Society is because I think it will help me with my resume, and when I want to get internships…

So what should I do?

*Cuarto is toooooo far away from the campus basically.

actually from people i have talked to that live in cuarto are not really bugged by the distance away from campus. and there are some pros to being in cuarto because you have semi-private bathrooms shared only by your suitemates and if you want quiet time to study you can get it as well as if you want to party its pretty easy there. and there are pools. and the health science community is an added plus. i didnt know about this but i think i want to be a part of it as well.

do i have to apply to be in it?

The honor’s challenge live-in program option is in Tercero. :open_mouth:

…but its optional.

the Leadership Exploration program is in the Segundo residence area however it has traditionally been in the Bixby “highrise” dorm on the second floor rather than the new dorms. Thus, if you simply want to ensure your spot in the Segundo area, the Leadership Exploration program is one way to do it. If you do choose this option I HIGHLY suggest that you do not do the optional ATP component. I found it extremely useless.

What is ATP?

a one unit class with your floor. i forget the exact wording.

Ah…another class added on top of everything else? No thanks, lol.
