Hi! I’m an upcoming senior. Right now, I have made a tentative list of colleges I would like to apply to. I’m still looking around though and I was wondering what people could say about these colleges. Like good things, bad things, etc.
What are the academic opportunities? Social opportunities? Diversity? Extracurriculars? Environment? Things like that?
I’ve done my research but I would really like to know what they’re like from actual people.

The UCs are full fee to OOS students.
UCLA is a beautiful campus and is very socially busy. It really is in LA and is very eclectic and contains a diverse student body. BRUIN walk is always hopping. Sports programs are diverse and the rivalry with that other school (USC) continues.
Berkeley’s area is very diverse and interesting. It is a very intense, study-wise. It’s location keeps it green as it is in northern CA. The local businesses have intentionally kept franchises out of the area.
University of Chicago is considered one of the best universities in the Midwest, and one of the best in the nation, I believe. I did not attend there, but have been on the campus a few times. It’s a beautiful, traditional-looking campus in Hyde Park, Chicago.
Hyde Park is a wonderful neighborhood, imo - vibrant, busy, and diverse, with very nice homes and apartment buildings, all kinds of shops, restaurants - very urban, very dense. Quick access to downtown Chicago on the el or by bus. The students there have a reputation for being very serious and very studious and intellectual - even the undergraduates.
