I plan on applying to UPenn SEAS ED. Could these grades hurt me? I’m still in the top 12 in my class of about 400, so I’m not entirely sure if they could. I also posted my senior year schedule if it helped.

Yes, those two Bs will ruin your life.

Honestly.

I hate the saracsm!

you’ll be fine.

As and Bs are fine. Cs are bad. Ds are terrible. Fs mean you fail.

hence you’ll be fine.

Thanks for the reinforcement. I just was upset because I had stepped away from my norm so much, but honestly, the classes were hard for once.

You got less B’s than I did junior year yet people tell me on my chances threads that I have a good shot at most universities. The point of my statement, there’s a lot more important to the app than school grades. You pass the first test, just make sure you do equally well or better in other parts of the app.

Please chance me:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=361246

Fred, I chanced you in your thread. Good luck. I might as well just turn this into a chance thread as well. What are my chances for these schools? I’ve listed them in order of my liking. Grades, GPA, Rank, and senior year schedule above in first post.

Extracurriculars:

I’m just going to concentrate on the writing-related activities as writing is my passion. I love to write.

Can somebody please chance me for my schools?

Anybody? I’m a bit impatient because I’m leaving for vacation, and I’d like to have a clear mind about my vita.

I think you will be accepted to about 2/3 of those schools, maybe more. Enjoy your vacation.

Well, I’d like to know which ones thought. Which ones are matches, safeties, and reaches? What kind of reaches? Although, I appreciate your reply greennble.

By the way, for clarification, my rank is about 12/~400.

your grades are almost exactly like mine, and im pretty much feeling like i cant even get into berkeley (i’m from california). wait, did u get the same grades both semesters? i think im just too pessimistic. and plus grades are not everything. your grades are great (i wish i could say that to myself) but it’s just that people applying to UPenn probably have had straight a’s throughout high school. yes it makes me sad to think that, but you dohave a good shot, given you have awesome ec’s, test scores, etc. good luck!

oh wait… i just saw the thing abotu your rank. yes that is pretty good for having those many b’s. at my school im probably 30-40 with the same grades as you. your rank def. makes it better though

http://princetonreview.com/college/research/advsearch/Match.asp

you can see what colleges are a good fit for you

I’ve checked that out, but I want people’s opinions. Thanks, anyway.

You got a 2300? I think you should be in at Penn ED pending higher test scores in SAT II’s. The 720 on MathIIc will hurt, but I doubt you’ll be rejected outright. But as you said, anything can happen. Your EC’s are good with a few math/science related ones. These are important but not the crux of your admission. You will need great essays and stuff but overall you’ve done well. I’d expect you’d get into at least one of your reaches if Penn ED (High Match ED, if deferred, Low Reach) does not work out well.

As by specific schools:

Columbia University SEAS-Low Reach

Dartmouth College-Low Reach

Johns Hopkins University-High Match

Cornell University-Low Reach

Carnegie Mellon University-Match

Tufts University-Match

Lehigh University-Low Match

Boston University-Low Match

Rutgers University-In

Thanks for chancing me earlier.

Anybody else? Should I take SAT II French to make up for the B+ in Honors French? Should I also take SAT II Physics in Nov. with French, for SEAS? I could self study it.

UGH! Can you even get into a decent college with horrible grades like that?!? Have fun at community college. Just kidding, your grades are fine… Why are you worrying over a couple of Bs lol.

Anybody else.

Could anyone else rate me for my schools, fit, safety, and reach?

I basically agree with Fred’s ratings except I think you’re a match at JHU and Cornell. Take some more SAT IIs if you are pretty sure you can score higher.
