I am wondering how much GPA in 100 pt scale which could get in top college? Could you please post your 100 pt scale GPA which accepted in top college? Thanks.

99.89 (Calculated through the end of my Junior year)

I got into Stanford, but you might also consider I go to small, uncompetitive public high school. Keep in mind there are several other factors that, I believe, overshadow GPA.

Wow, “Affe”, I can’t belive your GPA is 99.89, that’s meaning almost all of your courses are 100?

Affe: I checked your profile accepted by Stanford and I don’t understand why your GPA is so high while SAT I and II is not high? Why they have so much difference?

Some factors that can play a role:

not a good test-taker, academics didn’t prepare you for standardized tests (should have taken ACT instead), female (males generally do better in standardized tests plus males traditionally don’t relate to teachers as well as females), test days were on a “bad” day, grades at HS are inflated, there’s very little competition at school (Affe did say she/he went to an uncompetitive HS), etc.

I was also accepted to Stanford and mine is a 97.4. Affe, were you accepted this year?

weighted/unweighted for these?

Yes, I was accepted REA to Stanford. But I think there were several factors (essays being the biggest) which set me apart.

That was my correct GPA (should be a little higher now). Again, while it may look “impressive,” my high school is not very rigorous, and that is my **weighted **average. A few classes give +5 points, but some classes are capped at 95 too. We don’t have unweighted grades, but it would be a 4.0. The lowest grade I’ve received is a 98 (outside of the classes where 95 is the highest). Also, I did take some college classes in high school, both of which I made 100s in. There are 76 in my graduating class, so it’s a small school. Granted, it was chosen as one of Texas top public high schools by some magazine.

My test scores were not great. I understand that. But I didn’t really study much for them, and I’m not very good at standardized test taking.

Thanks, Affe. Congratulations to you!!!

Do you mean the essay is the most important part for your Sanford EA accepted? Do you have any college conseling help you for your EA application?

Thank you.

For most of the top schools, essays are vital. I think they are the single biggest factors for Stanford though. You still need good grades, good SAT scores, and ECs, but essays can make up for some slight downfalls. However, if you look at admission stats for Stanford, they tend to have lower SAT scores than HYP.

No. I didn’t get any counseling for my app. It was actually quite stressful because I had very little idea what to do on many parts, and I had no one to ask. My school counselor didn’t know anything about the commonapp, so I was left to CC and my best guesses.

Most top schools only look for grades and test scores that indicate that you can handle the work load. They’re aren’t going to look at someone with a 2130 and a 2170 and pick the highest one. They understand that some people are better test takers than others. They usually have an ideal range of scores and if you get at least close to that, then it’s all up to your essays and recommendations.

For Emory… I’m on the Canadian system so it’s different but I figure it would be around a 95 in the US. Full IB as well so rigor does count at top schools… remember that.
