So I’m looking at either mechanical engineering or computer science (i know, not engineering)
These are the schools I show interest in, but I just want to know how their programs are. Also are there others you would recommend? I’m a good student, certainly a shot at ivy. I like smaller schools so purdue and vtech kinda void that, but I still will visit them.
Miami University (ohio)
Purdue
Virginia Tech
Cornell
Brown
Dartmouth

What I would suggest for general science/technology/engineering jobs:

Dartmouth > Brown > Cornell > Virginia Tech = Purdue > Miami U

This is not how the programs are ranked by US News, but I think that engineers often seek jobs that aren’t just pure engineering - for those people general academic prestige matters as much as the quality of the engineering program.

Ummm…Brown is very good in Computer Science.

If you can get into Dartmouth and it won’t put you in the poor house, by all means do so.

If Miami (of Ohio) gives you like a full ride…go there…especially if you choose Computer Science.

Side note: There are going to be a lot of highly disappointed grads who think their college will mean so much when they see that THEIR BOSS graduated from the University of South Montana.

LOL. I’d be pretty disappointed too if I found at my boss’ diploma came from a university that doesn’t exist :X

I think I could probably get a full ride at miami of ohio. And as terrible as this sounds, I could probably pay off tuition from a more expensive university because apparently I’m supposed to inherit a large sum of money from my grandparents (when their time comes.)

But, I wouldnt say I’m a shoe-in or anything to the ivies.

I’m gonna work on my test scores and stuff (havnt taken any of the standards yet) so do you have a clue for what I should shoot for for act, sat? I also think that I will have a great list of credentials not directly academic related by the time i apply.

Hah, you gotta use what life gives you. Why this particular list, though? The choices vary a lot in program strength and don’t really seem to have much in common.

Yea i know, idk if dartmouth even has a good engineering program, computer science? Brown is decent, and I know pretty good in cs (not just from the poster) purdue and vtech are both top public school programs. And all of those are research colleges
Miami is like a hands on, i dont know what to call it. I visited it, and im intersted because they dont have a lot of graduates, so there are a lot of undergrad oppurtunities
Im really busy right now so my goal of learning some basic level programming right now is getting pushed off.
