Counselor Education Questions

Hello,
I recently graduated summa cum laude from a large state school in the ACC. My GPA was a 3.86 and I was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. I majored in political science and history. For this next year I will be substitute teaching (no open teaching positions in my area :frowning: – it really sucks! ) for the next year and will also be volunteering my time coaching high school basketball and possibly baseball. I would like to go to graduate school next fall to get a Masters degree in counseling with a focus in school counseling. I plan on taking the GRE’s in early to mid October.

I’d like to apply to the University of Virginia, University of Florida, Virginia Commonwealth University, William & Mary, Penn State, Ohio State, UNC, and Clemson. With that being said, just going off of preliminary research, Florida is my top choice. When I’m done with school and working, I’m open to living anywhere in the Southeast.

I have two questions: 1.) Are their any other schools that I should consider?
2.) Am I competitive at the schools I have selected?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Bump…

I’ve heard really good things about Wake Forest’s program. It’s fully funded, and, I believe, involves a semester in Vienna, though the program is very competitive. Do you have any clinical (counseling-esque experience)? If not, you may want to look into getting some, though the substituting teaching may actually help your application. Also, be wary of taking on substantial debt (i.e., unfunded OOS or private U).
