here’s my dumb question of the day: do counselors work during the school year.
You see, I’m trying to get a job at the library and I need recs, which would be a lot easier if school weren’t out.

It probably depends very much on the counselor in question. I would try to get in touch with whoever you need to talk to now. If they arn’t in the office, leave a message and try them back next month, or in August. I’m sure they will be there before the school year begins, and a heads up from you for the recommender is always helpful to them in their planning for next year.

Most guidance counselors work a few scattered days over the summer months. They have to register summer transfers, etc. If I were you, I’d email your GC and ask for the rec. It’s been my experience that teachers and counselors check phone messages and, even more easily, email messages and usually respond over the summer to the time-sensitive messages accordingly. A call to the school’s office could easily clear up your question as well.
