I’ll check out that daily cleaner. The Dupont stuff has sealer in it but it’s $16 a bottle…steeper than Vodka (well steeper than the vodka I would get to clean counters).

Our granite supplier recommended the Dupont stuff so we bought a kit that had a spray bottle, a large refill for the spray bottle, and a package of wipes. It was pretty expensive so I’m glad to learn about the Method brand at Target. I’ll be getting that once I get through all the Dupont Revitalizer we bought.

I’m planning to renovate my kitchen in probably 18 months and have begun keeping a ‘wish book’. Ideas, pictures, etc go into my notebook for further reference. Love the Ivory Fantasy!

For the OP and others who’ve recently been down this path: Why not one of the quartz products (many brand names, but same product) that does not require sealing and doesn’t stain but has the look of granite? There’s so much countertop information out there, it’s almost overwhelming.

masslou–

We thought the quartz products looked like “fake” stone, and granite just looked more natural. For generally similar money, we thought the granite was nicer.

masslou – we have quartz countertops in our new condo and it looks great. More and more some of the quartz products look like “real” granite. There are several brand names of the quartz – we have Cambria. IMO it really comes down to what you like.

We looked at quartz at three different places…that install all kinds of counters. They are ALMOST as durable as granite but not quite. In all three cases, they took a knife to the quartz and put a nice scratch in it. Also, quartz does have an acrylic binder in it…it’s not all stone…and this can be damaged due to high heat (like something out of the broiler…not that I would put that even on my granite…but I could).

And the prices were very comparable so we went the granite.

I will say…everyone I know who has quartz LOVES it…it does not take any maintenance from what they say.

Get what you like!!!

It was LOTS of fun going to the granite yard and looking at all of the choices of granite slabs…much more fun than looking at little samples of quartz.

$5.99 for a 28 oz spray bottle of Method Daily Granite Cleaner at Target. Actually I looked at a LOT of their products and they all seem very well priced. They are in the “green” section of the cleaning product section, not near the other cleaners.

Question to whomever said they used Barkeepers Friend…on their Blanco sink…did you use the liquid or the powder…or does it NOT matter?

“Get what you like!!!” - Yep. You’ll live with it a long time.

I’m one of the few people that still like our formica kitchen counters. They are 18 years old, speckly light blue with wood edging. If your house was built in 1993, you may have similar too DH is tired of the dated look. If we someday go to granite/whatever, he’ll get whatever cleaning and maintenance chores are required.

Yep…1994.

To be honest, if we hadn’t paid the extra ($100 or $200 maybe?) for the beveled wood edge, perhaps I woudn’t still like the old formica. The square edge seams aren’t as nice. I’ll have to keep that in mind next time I am on the fence about “paying a little extra” for an upgrade on something else.
