Countertenor pieces?

Hey, everyone - I’m a 18 year old countertenor that’s applying to college this fall. I’m not going to be a music major, though, but I am forming supplements with my voice teacher to show my unique repertoire and range.

I’m looking for a Renaissance-ish piece that’s light, medium-fast to fast, and is kind of pithy and bouncy. The one catch is, it has to be in a different language. I considered John Dowland’s Come Again and a version of Sound the Trumpet, but I already have other English songs, so I can’t perform that one. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any comment would be appreciated!

If your teacher does not have a lot of experience with Italian rep, you might want to get a few coachings with someone who does.

I think countertenors are so cool! Have you checked out those wonderful recordings of Phillipe Jaroussky available on youtube? Not sure if they would work for you, though.

Good luck!

Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli just released a CD of countertenor pieces that you might want to check out.

The Baroque era Italian era pieces are appropriate. Good luck.
