If you want to use the ACT instead of the SAT, on the applications do you just leave the SAT section blank or does that imply that you didn’t take the SAT and, therefore, being untruthful?

Is it generally possible for a student to obtain campus employment if they’re not eligible for federal workstudy?

I think it’s fine to fill in only the scores you want the school to see. If the school will take either, they don’t necessarily need to see both, even if you took both.

At S’s school, the on-campus jobs generally go first to work-study students, then to the general population. There are usually jobs available, although they may not be the most desirable. At the parent orientation, we were told that if our students reported that there were no any campus jobs available, it’s because they didn’t want to work in food service.

Per the second question–yeah, it’s usually food service. that’s what my D did. But, times they are achangin’ at our house (and income level even more so) so S has been awarded workstudy, and can be one of those kids you see sitting at the desk, studying while they check people in and out of the building ( or other such cushy job.) Hallejulluh!

Why is food service so undesirable? Daughter is working as a waitress at home now and finds it fine.

It wasn’t waitressing, it was dishwashing. Perfectly respectable, but a lot more work and a lot smellier ( I did it myself in the wayback past).

There are also temp jobs at D’s school - like fundraising phone calls, etc. They crop up at different times throughout the year, and the non work/study kids usually get these.

Addendum, Zoosermom, in my above post, I meant more work and smellier than your average workstudy job, NOT waitressing, which I know is a lot of work. Just to be clear :).

There are usually jobs on campus open to students without work study. they are often jobs in research labs, or for admissions/marketing.

I took the ACT and simply left the SAT section blank. They recieved my ACT scores, and no SAT ones, and thus I think it was clear since all SAT scores would be sent that I just didn’t take the SAT.

Since no school I know of requires you to send the scores of all tests you took, I wouldn’t interpret the question asking for scores as requiring you to report everything. Rather, it makes more sense if viewed as a request to put down the scores you are having sent and are relying on. If they want you to report everything, they could explicitly say so.
