couple questions about UCSD dorms

so for the dorms:
How many are there, im guessing 6 (1 for each college?) but not sure
and can someone tell me the estimated Resident Assistants per student ratio?

Also where is tutoring offered at UCSD? i know they offer it for free, but where?
Do they have tutoring offered that is non-affiliated with the campus

Also how do you get involved in clubs at UCSD. Like do they have a club fair?

[my twenty minutes were up so these are other questions i have} :)

Going off of the clubs, does anyone know what percentage of the school is involved and how / when can i get involved?

Regarding the dorms, they vary in size and number by college. Muir, for example, has two 1st year residence halls, while ERC has 5 smaller ones. In ERC, there are 2 RAs per hall, which boils down to around 1 per 50 ratio, or a little less. While that seems like a lot, you actually have a lot of personal contact with the RAs- they visit each suite weekly to give updates on going-ons.

There is a club fair every quarter.

what about greek life.
what percentage is involved and how can i get involved ?

thanks for the reply!

For greek life, you can rush fraternities in the fall - you’ll pick which ones you’re interested in and attend rush events for them during either 2nd or 3rd week. Then you’ll hopefully get a bid at the end of the week!
Not sure what percentage is involved but it’s quite small. About 1,000 women are in sororities (give or take a few hundred) and even less in fraternities. It’s a good little network though.

last questions:

 1. who is allowed cars?
 2. How much parking is available?
 3. Where do you find out about internships and careers?
 4. Who can help me with all this internship/career stuff?

everyone

Not much, it gets increasingly harder to find “S” (undergrad) spots on campus every year

Port Triton (part of the Career Services Center - you have to have a student ID though) and/or aip.ucsd.edu (Academic Internship Program)

People at Career Services Center or at AIP. Just so you know though, a lot of finding jobs and internships in college, you do on your own. There’s no hand-holding at UCSD.

So I have a really random question, but do non-students eat at the dining halls and other places on campus? Haha

^I mean… maybe occasionally, but for the most part it’s students. At the dining halls it’s usually only people who live on campus.

You won’t look weird if you show up and eat somewhere on campus though, if you’re wondering that. haha

There was literally no basis for me asking that question. It just popped into my head :p

a lot of science professors eat at plaza because it’s right next to their offices. though i guess the same could be said of faculty all around the campus – whatever’s convenient will work.

as for tutoring: the math and chemistry departments run tutoring labs/helprooms that you can drop into any time (afternoons and evenings, chemistry even had sessions on the weekends) and they’re staffed by TAs who are assigned to one of the undergraduate lectures. if you want a one-on-one tutor, you can usually get a list of available grads/undergrads from the department’s student affairs office.

Hi, does anyone know if i can bring friends to stay overnight in my dorm?

^Yeah. There’s a 3 night limit though. After that, bad things could possibly happen.

^
I thought it was 6 nights per quarter. Or are you talking about 3 nights straight?

Care to elaborate on the bad things?

^3 nights straight. And they can terminate your housing contract if they find out. It happened to my friends for having a long term person stay with them.

^what if the person is attending ucsd and they want to sleep over?

^Well that person was attending UCSD. They can sleep over but just not for more than 3 nights in a row.

^and not for more than six days total?

How would they know?

^Well, they “wouldn’t”, if you know what I mean. And I’m not sure about the six day thing. I’ll look into that though.

Oh, I see. Thank you!
