Are you talking about 20.110 (Thermodynamics of Biomolecular Systems)? If so, it’s only offered in the fall.

The BE department has a [sample course plan](<a href=“Home | MIT Department of Biological Engineering”>Home | MIT Department of Biological Engineering) on their webpage. In all cases, they suggest using your fourth class spring of freshman year as an elective – personally, I’d put a HASS there, because I don’t think it’s a good idea to double up on HASSes second semester of senior year when a) you will not want to write papers and b) you may be gone frequently for grad school/job interviews.

Just know that your plans may go awry when two or more of those classes that you want to take in the same term are scheduled on top of each other.

Is there a difference between 20.110J and 7.10J ? For a Class 7, is it better to take 7.10J ?
Also is there a difference between 5.07J and and 7.05 ?

As for the rest - 7.10J/20.111J is the spring counterpart to 20.110J, so you should be fine. As for 5.07/7.05, they count as the same for everything that I know of - the difference is that one is fall, and one is spring (much like 20.110 and 20.111).

The difference between 7.05 and 5.07 is that 7.05 is easier, at least in my humble opinion. 5.07 lets you have twice as many cheat sheets during the final exam, and while that may sound like a good thing, it’s not. (Allowing you to have more cheat sheets means that they feel free to make the questions on the tests a lot harder.)

As for 7.10/20.111, they’re just different names for the same class – the “J” in the name means it’s joint between two or more departments, but each department gives it a name of its own.

Also, if you were really banking on having Lander via 7.012, tough luck- it’s only in the fall. 7.013 seems to be the popular version in the spring.

Well yeah, barring it being the only class offered. There was a discussion about this a while back on the 12 facebook group and people were discussing who’d take what if .015 and .014 were offered in addition to .013.

5.07 is much harder than 7.05. And 7.05 will already make you work for your grade.

As for 7.10/20.111, yes, faculty on the biology department are saying it is much more appropriate for Course 7 majors, having been designed for them. (I thought this is already going to be the second year it’s been offered…)

Thank you all for the answer. I also wonder if you want to do course 10B, then you need to take another thermodynamics class 10.213. That is a lot of thermodynamics.
