Hi everyone!
I’m a junior in the IBDP and here’s my courseload:
HL
- English A Literature
- History
- Economics
SL
1.Math
2. Spanish B
3. Biology
I’m also self-studying the following APs: Both the econs, calc, World History and Lang and Composition (already done with 2)
Is my course load challenging enough for competitive colleges like Stanford?
Thanks
I think your course load is challenging- of course, that ultimately depends on what a normal course-load is for juniors in your school. By virtue of being in the IBDP it is challenging, but I’m not sure how challenging when compared to the rest of the students who are applying from your school.
What I am more concerned about is you self-studying so many APs. Colleges do not like to see students who spend so much time self-studying and not taking the actual class. Colleges will not be impressed by this.
AP courses aren’t offered in my school, that’s why I’m self studying @yonceonhismouth
Well that makes it a little different, but still with such a rigorous courseload will you not be overloading yourself with all those additional exams? Up to you, of course, but personally I’ve heard that WH is just a lot of material, and calc is hard to study without an accompanying class.
No, it doesn’t.
Of course AP courses are not offered at the school - it’s an IB school. Competitive colleges expect students to challenge themselves within the context of what’s available. Stanford, or any other school, is not impressed with your self studying ability. You will not get more college credit for econ and English from the AP exam that from the IB exam. Stanford, and many top colleges, give no credit for World History. The only one that would be worthwhile self studying is calc, since you won’t get credit for IB SL exams. But the only reason to self study calc is for the credit; it will not benefit you in admissions.
