Members of the Class of 2011:

The Registrar has just completed course assignments for the upcoming Fall semester. If you would like to view your preliminary course schedule online, follow these steps:

Go to the “Banner Self-Service” page: https://bannerselfservice.lafayette.edu:8090/pls/BAN7PROD/twbkwbis.P_GenMenu?name=homepage

Click on “Enter Secure Area”

Enter your User ID (“L” number) and unique PIN

Click on “Student & Financial Aid”

Click on “Registration”

Click on “Student Detail Schedule”

Select “Fall 2007 (View only)” from the pull-down menu and click “Submit”

There, you will be presented with the courses you are assigned to for the Fall semester. You may wish to check course dates/times and also professors for each class.

Under the category “Status” for each course, you should see either “Registered” or “Web Wait List”. If you are placed on the wait list of a course you really wish to take, just know that you can always sit in on the first class and then ask the professor if he/she would be willing to let you in. Most professors don’t mind allowing a few students in over capacity.

If you are unhappy with any of your course assignments, direct any concerns to your class dean, Ronald Robbins, by email at robbinsr@lafayette.edu or by phone at (610) 330-5080. Whenever possible, incoming students are allowed to change courses over the summer months.

What does TR actually mean? Does it mean Tuesday and Thursday or only Thursday?

shail619,

Good question! TR means that class meets on both Tuesday AND Thursday.

Justin

I see quite a lot of “spare time” in my class routine …Are those actually “spare times” as such?..If yes… what do students usually do in those times… I wouldn’t mind playing around the soccer field every evening :D

Well…then how would “Thursday only” be represented?

shail619,

Yes, you will have blocks of “spare time” between your classes. You can spend the time doing classwork (studying for exams, reading ahead, making outlines of course texts, writing papers), hanging out with friends in Farinon, eating (what else?), going to the Kirby Sports Center, or tending to your extracurricular activities.

As you’ll soon find out, there is really very little “free time” in college! You’ll find that there’s always something to tend to, even when classes are not in session.

As for your question, classes that meet for one three-hour block on Thursday would have only an “R” indicated on a course schedule. The weekdays are represented as follows: M, T, W, R, F.

Justin

so does playing soccer in the evening come under “something to tend to”?? or does it serve as a “totally useless activity” ( I seriously hope it isn’t the latter one) :D

shail619,

Any recreational activity that can get your mind off of schoolwork should not be considered a “totally useless activity”.

Come to think of it, the CC user ediaz from Quito, Ecuador is a recreational football player at Lafayette. He actually won the ISA (International Students Association) World Cup this past year!

You might wish to get in contact with him to hear his experiences as an international student. I remember he started a thread on these boards not too long ago called “I’ll Answer Questions From International Students Class of 2011”…you should check it out.

Hi Justin,
I had a question about the schedules that are online. I am planning on majoring in bio (as you already know i’m sure!). However, it says online that i am “waitlisted” for biology 101. I registered for classes the very first day (the 11th), and although supposedly it is not first come first serve, i am wondering why i am “waitlisted”. This is very upsetting to me because if i want to major in bio then it is really important for me to take bio 101 first semester. I called the registrar’s office but they told me to “be patient until maybe they will decide to open another section”. Do you know if there is any other way to get out of being waitlisted, as i really really would like to take bio this year. Hopefully you can help! Thanks!
M

M,

This is the first time I’ve ever seen BIO 101 fill up entirely. The first lecture section, taught MWF 10:00-10:50am, has reached its capacity of sixty students and currently has a wait list of ten students. The second lecture section, scheduled for MWF 11:00-11:50am, has also reached the same capacity and currently has a wait list of seven students.

Normally, professors would have no problem signing in a few students from the wait list the first day of classes. However, with lab science courses, that’s not always a possibility. The lab sections are all capped at twenty students apiece, and that number is not easily changed due to safety concerns.

As you are well aware, prospective Biology majors should be taking BIO 101 in the first semester. Even though there is only one professor in charge of the six laboratory portions of BIO 101, I’m sure the Registrar could create another lab section with little trouble (which would open up ten more spaces in each lecture section).

I’m glad you expressed your concern to the Registrar’s Office. Now that they know there’s an issue, give them some time to come up with a solution.

Don’t be too upset. Since there are sixteen other students in your situation, something has to be done. Just sit tight and let the College do its job.
