My daughter is planning to take courses outside of school curriculum. I heard that you could add courses in Uni of California (UC) application for the courses that may not be part of your school transcript. I would like to know if they are not part of high school transcript what school year would UC consider that course. Afaik UCs calculate 10 and 11th grade courses.
UC looks at courses from the summer after 9th grade through the summer after 11th grade for calculating GPAs. GPA requirement | UC Admissions
She can take the outside courses any time from 9th to 12th grades if she wants/needs to fulfill a-g course requirements.
If she is trying to bolster her UC GPA’s, then UC approved Honors, AP/IB or DE/College UC transferable classes need to taken the summer after 9th to the summer prior to 12th.
Is there a specific reason she wants to take outside classes?
Yeah, the goal is demonstrate the course rigour and boost net effective GPA, I understand A-G requirement but still dont understand how GPA is calculated. She is sophmore right now @Gumbymom, so all out side courses she take from now through summer before 12th grade will be part of her GPA if she decide to put in her application ? Given the school does not allow more than certain summer credits and these courses are beyond summer credit courses
Outside courses that are a-g courses and taken with a UC/CSU approved provider are included in the CSU//UC calculations if taken the summer after 9th through the summer prior to 12th.
The only exception is Cal Poly SLO which uses 9-11th grades in their GPA calculation.
A separate transcript will be required to be submitted once admitted and enrolled.
