courseload question

My current Senior year schedule is 5 AP classes and…Web Design I. Will Web Design look bad to Ivy adcoms (it is an unweighted, cakewalk class)? I’m thinking of replacing it with Spanish III so it won’t look like I’m being lazy, though I’m worried I might crush myself with the courseload. Will it make a difference? Thanks

5 APs is already a very rigorous schedule. I don’t think you need to replace it because they will obviously know that you are working hard.

replace it w/ spanish III

Taking challenging classes is always great. Taking more is even better. But having the time to perfect your essays, join a sport, or lead a candle light vigil for a cause you care deeply about is even better.

Seriously, nobody cares how many AP classes you took. Adcom wants to see a person, not a nerdy robot.

After writing this, I’ve come up with another solution, why don’t you drop an AP and take Spanish 3? I’d think a deeper understanding of a language would help you become more well-rounded and would also enable you to study abroad, Spain per se, which would literally change your life. Further, studying abroad will give you an opportunity to work abroad, and you’ll get to see many more wonderful things. If you were my younger brother, this would be my advice to you. However, if you were my younger brother, you wouldn’t listen to me.

Good luck and don’t stress over this too much.

Actually you can even get away with taking 5 classes. Since they are all AP they almost equal another additional class (because of the workload).

It also depends on where you are applying…

If you don’t have the confidence in the rigor of your schedule, my prediction is that you probably aren’t going to get into the schools you want anyway.

Conclusion: Have confidence in yourself.
