What are some courses that are unique to Brown? Are there any quirky/interdisciplinary/thought-provoking courses that only Brown offers?

The majority of them lol. There are so many courses that are just so unique and different. There’s English called “Devils,Demons, and Do-Gooders” and “The Simple Art of Murder.” There’s a math FYS called “From ‘Flatland’ to the Fourth Dimension” and a math class “Cryptology.” We have a class in the American Civilization department on comic books. We have unique courses all around.

There was a course offered last year called “Cult Archaeology.” There’s a class called “Irony.”

Essentially, Brown has a lot of interesting courses, but you’ll find comparable courses at any school with a variety of offerings. What makes Brown stand out (but again, you’ll see this at any school with a relatively open curriculum) is that much of the time, students want to be in any class they take and are typically enthusiastic about the material. If I take an elective outside of my concentration, it’s not to fulfill a distribution requirement; it’s because I actually want to take the class!

Every college will offer unique courses based on what the instructors are focusing on at the moment. It changes year to year and college to college. Make sense?

The Am Civ class is on graphic novels – a little different from comic books.
