I will be going to FASET this weekend and am trying to figure out what courses I am going to register for (or try to). I am using courseoff.com to make like a mock schedule. A few questions, if someone wouldnt mind answering??

Is this too much for the first semester? I know it says 12 hours but its 16 according to GaTech.

Does this include recitation? Like for Calc II, its an hour a day Mon-Thurs…is it like 2 lectures and 2 recitation periods?? or is recitation not included?

Any advice for registering for classes and getting the ones you want/need???

How are you taking Calculus II on 4 days? The classes are usually M,W, F or T,R. You might have APed out of CALC I but a lot of people will advise you to take CALC I again. It is a lot more information than what they teach you in high school.

Calc. II probably has recitation that one must sign up for (kind of like some, especially intro. science courses having a mandatory lab attached. Large classes at many schools have additional discussion or recitation sections so that students can get additional exposure to material outside of lecture in a smaller setting). Also, lots of people on here advise against retaking calc. 1 at Tech as it is far from a guaranteed GPA helper and will not ensure any level of preparedness for calc. II which does lots of linear algebra. It probably starts off w/an intense coverage of series and then moves on to the linear algebra stuff. The class is hard, but a person w/AP credit for Calc. 1 has probably just as good a chance as doing well or passing as someone who took calc. 1. Anyway, that schedule looks normal. 1 math, 1 science, 1 CS, English, and health doesn’t seem bad. The most brutal class there is probably calc. II and also watch out for those chem. multiple choice tests. Gotta really pay attention on top of knowing what you are doing (otherwise, it’s only moderately difficult like gen. chem at most schools).

Also, after looking closer I still believe those are recitations on MW. They are significantly smaller time slots than TTh (as in about 1/2 or a little less. A normal MWF class is 20 minutes over 1/2 of a TTh).

Thanks everyone for your quick replies. What professors would you suggest for Calc II?? Almost all that I saw were Professor TBA??? And yes, that calc II is four days…M W, TR…both listed as lecture. Should I switch that? haha. Im assuming that doesnt include recitation???

Is Calculus I all 5 days a week or it that you get to choose from MWF and TR? Are the recitation classes included in the schedule? I am confused.

to clarify, the ones that are MTWR are 1.5 hour lectures TR, and 1 hour recitations MW. Recitations are generally required, that’s why it’s a 4 hour class. if it’s MTWRF, then you have hour long class MWF, and recitations TR :)
