I’ve been told that 90-100 is an A, 80-89 is a B, and so on. However, I’ve also heard that a 4.0 is a 97-100, 3.7 is 93-96, and 3.3 is 90-92. Which is the correct one?

Thanks in advance!

According to College Board, 93 and up is 4.0. 90-93 is 3.7. If you google “College Board GPA Conversion,” a full chart should be there.

Trying to simply translate percentile grades to a 4.0 scale is a fool’s errand. Consider a student with a four year 95% average. That could be 95% in all her courses (a 4.0) or it could be 100% in 75% of her courses and 80% in 25% of courses (a 3.5 or 3.75, depending on the scale).

If you truly want to convert a percentage GPA to a 4.0 scale GPA, convert each course grade individually and do your own calculation, using A=4, B=3, etc.
