Not very scientific…my kids, mom, and many friends didn’t get the bivalent boosters, they are all getting the latest vaccine.
I have one scheduled for this Thursday and I am concerned they may run out.
What would the reason be for not getting the previous one but wanting to get the new one?
Committing to a random pollster is different than actually making an appointment and following through.
My in laws said they would get the booster but it was always, yea we need to do that.
I’m always skeptical who is answering these polls.
I think more of their family and friends are getting Covid and also because they haven’t had a Covid vaccine in over a year.
My mother’s friends went to a karaoke party. All 12 people got Covid.
Got the new booster last week (with no side effects). I’m hearing about a number of people who have covid now and are pretty sick and I’m also noticing more masking in grocery stores etc. There doesn’t seem to be any official local reporting on numbers and I can’t find any up to date results of the wastewater monitoring in the area.
Just curious because we haven’t been asked to wait the post-vaccine precautionary 15 minutes since the first round–are pharmacies getting lax on this because most people have already had at least one vaccine? I can see being strict with the first shot or, perhaps, if you’re switching brands but maybe not necessary otherwise? What’s your experience been?
Wasn’t asked to wait at all when I got the latest Moderna recently.
Only time I’ve been told to wait was when my employer gave us the first two shots. Anytime I go to Target/CVS for any shot (this is where I’ve gotten almost all my vaccines for years), they tell me to just stay in the store for 15 minutes and can leave after that, but no need to check with them. So basically, you’re on your own… When we got the last booster at a standalone CVS they didn’t say anything to us about waiting.
We didn’t get the booster the first week it was available and are now paying the price. My wife and I went to the WFU parents’ weekend, and both of us came down with Covid afterwards. We’re both taking Paxlovid. She’s pretty sick, and I’m only having cold-like symptoms. We were covid “virgins” prior to all this.
We got the Spikevax at CVS and were not told to wait.
I don’t know if pharmacies ordered smaller supplies, if there is higher demand, or a combination of both, but it is far more difficult to get appointments now than for previous boosters.
We notice two types of people wearing masks. Right or wrong, our assumption is:
- Quality mask with a good fit - those who are trying not to get sick.
- Poor quality mask, poor fit (ex. sliding down their nose, loose on the sides) - likely currently sick.
went on CVS online last night and found plenty of available appointments this week for either Moderna or Pfizer in my local zip code. (Perhaps the update is not great here?)
Personally gonna wait until early November.
Good point. I was wondering if people think I’m sick because I wear a mask. (I always wear an N95 or KN94.) I’ve also considered coughing a few times to maybe keep them away from me!
I live in Los Angeles County and there are a decent number of people masking. If I am in Orange County, I notice that people see my mask and stay away from me. ![]()
After getting an actual COVID-19 infection, it is likely a good idea to wait several months before getting a booster, since a booster is unlikely to have much benefit in the first ~3 months after recovery. YLE has a post including this subject: Considerations for your fall Covid-19 vaccine
When I search my zip code on the CVS website a large list of “available” sites comes up, but when I click on each store it tells me there are no available appointments. I have to go out several days to find a site with an available appointment.
I got mine on Saturday morning, and there was a specific question on the intake sheet about an allergic reaction to any prior covid vaccines, and if you had received any outside of the network (i.e. were there any that they might not have on record for you).
So I think they are only asking people to wait at this point if they’ve never received one of the covid vaccines before (and IMO it’s pretty likely that the people that haven’t been vaccinated up until this point aren’t coming in for this one, so that’s prob not anyone they’re seeing right now
).
Had mine at cvs about 10 days ago. The pharmacist who was only going shots said that we should wait inside the store for 15 minutes. We left as we weren’t concerned about having a problem.
My daughters and I received Spikevax at Target CVS on Saturday. The pharmacist said since there were three of us and we could keep an eye on each other that it was ok to shop inside the store for 15 minutes. She just asked us to return to the pharmacy afterwards and give her a wave so she knew we were ok.
