Covid -- Additional Booster?

I went ahead and got three shots today - flu, RSV, and COVID. I wasn’t going to get the RSV shot because I thought it would be too expensive, but Anthem paid 100% of the cost ($325)! I was shocked.

I was NOT impressed with Walgreen, though. It took 45 minutes from the time I went up to the counter until I was done with the shots. And there was no line! My appointment was at 2:30 so I got there at 2:20. Another guy came up about five minutes later and said his appointment was at 2:40. The woman checking him out gave him a form to fill out, and the guy helping me gave me one. We were a little perplexed by that, since we’d both filled everything out online, but they said they didn’t have access to that information. ?? Whatever. Because the other employee was available when the other customer finished filling out the form, he turned it in before I could. We waited about 15 minutes, and then HE was called in, grr. Then it was another 15 minutes before I was called. It was obvious that there was only one pharmacist on staff - he would administer shots to one customer, and then return to filling prescriptions for awhile. Ugh. Oh, well, at least I’m done. He told me to stick around 15 minutes, but I just left.

Same thing at Walgreens for me about a couple weeks ago. Filled out all the forms online but had to fill them out again by hand when I got there. Made no sense but of course I did it. And then the clerk totally mispelled my first name (a very common, easy name), even though I verbally told her my name, spelled it, when I checked in and also handed over my drivers license and insurance card to her! The only thing right on the first name was the first initial! Waited about 45 minutes after my appointment time to get my Covid shot but at least I got it. The woman in front of me said she had waited for an hour.

I usually go to RiteAid or CVS but my CVS appointment had already been cancelled (we showed up and they didn’t have the vaccine in and did not even let us know that in advance).

Getting RSV tomorrow. Hope that experience goes better!

I had no trouble where I live in suburban Los Angeles County getting the Covid booster last week at my local Vons (grocery store) pharmacy. There was no info when I signed up online on whether it was Pfizer or Moderna. When I got there I found out they only had Pfizer. All of my previous five shots were Moderna so I hesitated for a moment but then just went ahead and got it, along with the flu shot. I had one shot in each arm–the arm where I got the Covid shot was sore for longer, but I had no other side effects, not even tiredness or a headache, which I’ve gotten with the previous Moderna shots.

Phew—I had made appts for us to get covid shots at nearest cvs got for Monday morning a week ago. Checked on Friday and found out they ran out of vaccine. Made appts at another nearby CVS—20 minutes from our house for Monday afternoon. Also made an evening appt at Walgreens near our house for vaccine. Called CVS this morning and was told I would have to reschedule as they had no vax. I thanked them and told them I was going to Walgreens instead.

We went to Walgreens 2 hours early and they agreed to give both of us the covid booster, even though only I had an appointment and H didn’t have one (app wouldn’t schedule him—I snagged last appt).

Phew—my lung doc advised us to get this booster in early Oct because we are high risk due to lung conditions and >65 age. We had covid in mid-July and no interest in a repeat. S is having his wedding later this month with many out of town guests.

We had gotten RSV and flu shots earlier, on separate days.

Finally got an appointment at Publix for next week. Fingers crossed they don’t run out of the vaccine before it’s our turn. We were able to schedule it on an evening when we’ll have three days off from babysitting afterwards (which only happens about once a quarter) so we hope to be feeling okay by the time we’re on duty again.

I got my shot last Friday (TBH-don’t know the brand). I was getting my wellness visit and my Dr. let me know that they had the vaccine ready to go. I only had minimal side-effects

Novavax received FDA approval this afternoon.

Any idea when Novavax might be available?

Estimating next week: Novavax expects COVID-19 boosters to be available next week

I got Moderna Spikevax yesterday morning and feel terrible today. Arm hurts way more that any previous vax. I was tired last night, but feel achy and feverish today, but no fever. I recommended Moderna to my 90 yr old mother for her dose on Wed., as she spends a day or two in bed after Pfizer. Hope she won’t be too bad.

I have had the original moderna, one booster of Moderna, and last year this time pfizer. I am thinking novavax for next booster, but still wondering how well it compares to the others @ucbalumnus what are your thoughts?

Sorry you’re not feeling well, @toledo . H and I got Moderna 2 weeks ago with no issues besides a sore arm for a day or so. Hopefully, your mother will do fine with the vaccine. Good luck to her!

Got the RSV shot about 5 hours ago. So far, so good.

My COVID shot arm was a little sore last night, but today I’m fine.

See post #243 of this thread.

I have a mild cold (tested negative twice for Covid). I have a Covid vaccine scheduled for this Thursday. I am wondering if I should wait.

We got Moderna booster yesterday. H feels junk and slightly feverish. I feel fine.

H and I got our Moderna boosters last night at a Walgreens. Our previous boosters had been at a few different Walgreens and had been fairly bad experiences with long waits. This one went exceptionally well. The pharmacy was well staffed with multiple pharmacists and techs. They had a nurse on staff to give vaccinations even though they do not have a clinic at this location. The nurse did ask us to stay in the store for 15 minutes. Other than a slightly sore arm I feel fine so far. H is still in bed, but he is never up this early. I am interested in investigating Novavax and possibly switching at some point, but I have too many family and work events coming up to wait for a different booster right now.

Yes. We would have waited for Novavax but we were expecting a grandbaby and traveling to visit a 93-year-old mother in the next few weeks and wanted immediate protection. I’m glad to have the vaccine two weeks behind us as all this happens. Maybe we can get the Novavax next round!

My H is feeling better today, 60 hours after the shot, so I’m glad. Phew! He’s been taking Alleve as needed. I had slight tenderness at injection site but an otherwise fine.

H and I got our flu and Covid vaccines 8 days ago and had no issues except for a bit of soreness in our arms where the Covid vaccine was given. Last night we decided to go to our pharmacy and get the RSV vaccine. Neither of us have any issues so far today.

We leave in 10 days for Europe and wanted to have the best protection possible to avoid missing any part of our trip with getting ill. I know we could still test positive for Covid while we are traveling, but we hope it will be a mild case if that happens. I have tested positive twice (1/22 and 1/23) and never was very sick nor did I take Paxlovid although I was eligible. My symptoms were gone in 24 hours the first time I had Covid and in 12 hours the second time I had it. I attribute this to the vaccines doing what they are supposed to do.
