Covid -- Additional Booster?

The more I read on Medscape COVID-19 Virus Infects Coronary Vasculature of the varied down-the-road potential problems from COVID, “A new study finds SARS-CoV-2 directly infects the coronary vasculature and causes plaque inflammation, which could help explain why people with COVID-19 have an increased risk for ischemic cardiovascular complications up to 1 year after infection”, the more I’d choose the side effects form the vaccine to the risk of an infection. I have had a total of 7 vaccines (6 regular/booster/bivalent and the one research study vaccine), and the only time I got covid was sometime after the research vaccine and before I could get a regular booster!

I did a quick search and nothing popped up under ‘vascular damage in those with vaccine but no infection’. I wonder if that is being tracked or investigated. It would be interesting.

I had the original 2 Pfizer jabs and one booster in November 2021. Got COVID August 2022. Prior to the infection my Spike antibodies had dropped below the upper measured limit of 150 to around 130 (quest labs test). Post COVID and to this day those antibodies are again above the upper measured limit

I did battle odd symptoms for several months which were probably long COVID. Mainly reoccurring bouts of fatigue after exercise.

Just had a checkup with a fantastic PA. After going thru history, antibody levels, general blood work I asked about the RSV, Flu and COVID vaccines. A full on yes for the Flu. Hesitation on the RSV and after reciting the mandatory party line…it was agreed that I could pass on any COVID booster.

We did decide to start me on Metformin. Some very good data on the reduction of general inflammation and prevention of long COVID as well as reduction of the severity of a COVID infection. Working my way up to 1500 mg/day. So far so good.

As for RSV…an interesting read

We live in an area that anti-vaccine and anti-mask tourists love to visit. Dh is high-risk. We gladly rolled up our sleeves for the boosters.

DH and s24 got the COVID booster and flu vaccine the same day. Dh was achy and tired the same day but better the next morning. S24 was fine the day of the vaccines but had a horrible headache and fatigue the next day. He felt better by evening.

S26 and I opted to get the COVID booster two weeks before the flu vaccine. We had sore arms for a few days after the booster, but not so sore as to prevent normal activity. I don’t know if dh and s24’s stronger reactions were coincidental or not, but am thinking that I, at least, will choose to space out future vaccines.

Thank you for sharing.

Meaning, already getting noticeable relief but still upping dosage - or meaning too early to tell, just no major side-effects thus far?

Started with 500mg/at night. Had a bit of a weird tummy feeling but nothing bad.

Just upped to 500mg/a.m. and p.m. Will see how it goes.

If I tolerate that without gut issues I’ll go up to 500 am and 1000 p.m. Hope to get to that level before a trip in November.
It seems to have knocked out the last vestiges of fatigue. And…this was SUCH a surprise to me since I hadn’t read about this side effect (and neither had the PA). It’s reduced my anxiety level. It was SO noticeable within a few days. Just weird.

Much appreciated! So for now, you’re just working on getting to the full dosage, in hopes that it might eventually might reduce long-CoViD symptoms.

(I have someone who’s suffering from symptoms months later, so I’m always interested in new treatment regimes.)

There was a study where metformin taken by those with acute COVID-19 was associated with a significantly lower rate of long COVID afterward. However, it was not about use of metformin by those with long COVID after recovery from acute COVID-19.

Anxiety can cause blood sugar dis-regulation which in turn increases anxiety (apparently). Blood sugar dis-regulation can result in varied and unreliable energy levels. So, I attribute the resolution of the fatigue issues to better blood sugar control.

I am not diabetic nor pre-diabetic so this is an off label use. Met has also shown to have brain protective properties and sin ce both parents had cognitive issues later in life - this is hedging my bets.

My internal medicine physician encouraged me to get the RSV vaccine because I have a newborn grandchild I am in regular contact with. She also hopes folks under 60 will get it to reduce the amount of circulating disease and thus protect children and vulnerable adults. I’m scheduled for next week.

I got the Novavax today. Will see how I feel in 24 hours…

well that did not go well. I am feeling worse than any Moderna or Pfizer shot.

Hopefully on the mends by now?
Maybe confirmation that your immune system really needed that exposure to be best prepared for the “real case”.

Sorry you feel badly, but I’ve not heard of any place that had the novavax. Where did you get it?

Costco

Use Find pharmacies near you to search for Novavax in your ZIP code. When I search in my area, it looks like Costco and CVS locations show up for Novavax.

That site does not seem to include medical offices, since some that say that they have some kind of COVID-19 vaccine do not show up when searching for any or all brands of vaccine.

All of the CVS and Costco locations near me show that Novavax is in stock with appointments available.

Oh, no! The side-effects for Novavax are less than with the mRNA vaccines for most people. I am MMPPPP, and am planning to get Novavax by the end of the month. I only had a “bad” reaction after my 2nd dose of Moderna, and that was a typical reaction.
