CR got your tongue?

(NOTE SOME PEOPLE MAY AGREE WITH ME WHILE OTHERS MAY NOT WITH THIS STRATEGY; its all preference)

THIS STRATEGY APPLIES TO THE PASSAGES

If anyone can relate to me and is a weak reader this can help

CR use to have my tongue tied in loops. Since CR is the hardest to improve on, I thought I’ll share a great method to answering these questions. I went from a score of 460 to the high 500s in just a week! ( I am now improving more) Applying this method can be time consuming at first but when you get into the habit of it, it actually saves time! Here is what I do when reading these passages:

Do’s

 • First read the blurb, it gives you a overview of what the passage is about
 • Next read the paragraphs one by one dissecting the passage into many pieces ( this is good for weak readers) concentrating step by step and briefly but quickly summarizing each paragraph
 • Answer the line reference questions first, jumping from one paragraph to the other is okay
 • Use the context clues (ALL THE ANSWERS ARE IN THE PASSAGE, YOU JUST HAVE TO FIND THEM!!!)
 • Have a positive attitude and stay focused, this helps a lot because even if I come across a very boring passage; while staying focus I am able to answer the questions without much trouble and the passages become pretty interesting to be honest
 • While reading try to be critical of the passage asking questions
 • After finishing a CR practice test review all answers thoroughly and redo the questions if you have to (Don’t just say oh I know why I got this wrong I’ll just correct this mistake the next time, you have to know why your answer is wrong and why the correct choice is the correct choice using the passage if you must) this is another key to improving

Dont’s

I don’t like to read the whole passage because the SAT CR isn’t measuring how well you can read its testing you ability to apply critical thinking

Thinking about other stuff! Staying focus is the key to nailing this section

Giving up if a question seems too difficult, sometimes people will feel discouraged when answering a hard questions but don’t, hard questions are hard for a reason (if you really can’t answer them skip one or two if your not looking for a 2100+)

Feel like you can’t improve, I know that the CR section is the most difficult section to improve on but a little practice goes a long way. If you feel like you can’t improve you are wrong! Improving doesn’t happen overnight, it takes a few errors in order to find a solution.

Well that was a long method but I hope I can help you guys like my friend has helped me.

This is great! I agree. Thanks!
