My score on the November SAT was 2200, 700M, 800CR, 700W.
This time in March, I got a 700M, 680CR, and 800W.
How will colleges view this drop? My composite dropped 20 points, but I did improve my writing by 100 points. Considering I’m looking at a Chemistry major, should retake it again for the better math score (hopefully) and maybe a better CR score to show that the 680 was a fluke?
My superscore is a 2300, so I feel like I can probably stop, but of the two schools I’m sure I’m applying to, UT-Austin only accepts a one-sitting score and Cornell only looks at math and CR.
Any advice?
If you take it again, your score will most likely hover in the mid 2200 range. Your subscores, even the 680, are above the average subscores for applicants to UT-Austin. As for Cornell, it will look at your entire test history and will likely average out your scores. If you’re shooting for Cornell, the math score is in the mid 50% percentile (a bit on the low side though). It’s ultimately up to you whether to take it again. IMO, I wouldn’t take it again. A 2200 single sitting is a strong score for a UT applicant.
To be honest, I don’t think colleges will care. Cornell will superscore you to an impressive 1500. I think they know how weird, inconsistent, and just plain abstruse SAT scoring is, and a 2300 is a fantastic score.
If you want, I suggest you take it again for the math–that’s a bigger issue, in my opinion, if you want to go into chem.
Will a 750 on the Math II help my case? I’m really shooting for Cornell and I’m trying to do anything to better my application.
