Thanks!!

1) Relief, in this context, refers to an outward protrusion of something from the ground. I remember learning this world in middle school studying earth science and topography.

2) Context clues are critical here.
Break down what the sentence is saying:
Madame Curie had some problems.
A saga was written about her.
The saga “sanitized” her story, or got rid of some unsettling details.
In this sense, the saga is trying to minimize our exposure to Curie’s downsides.
Therefore, the saga “minimizes.”

3) B is wrong because it is redundant. Complete is synonymous with comprehensive. The sentence, with your option, becomes “… reports were both complete and complete.” See the problem?
In addition, the sentence suggests we need something that is opposite to “rambling.” Something that is rambling is unlikely to be succinct, or to-the-point and not wordy, so it makes sense that E is the answer.

4) E is lacking the preposition “of.” With E in place, it’s not directly clear that we are comparing librarians of several decades ago to today’s librarians. Only C does so without some form of error.

I hope this helps.

Like too many English words, relief has a second meaning that is not related to the commonly known one of easing pain or distress. In architecture it is something carved into a structure that appears raised from the main structure. Thus relief is correct.

Process of elimination. A “sanitized” version means anything controversial or overly praiseworthy has been taken out. As to something such as “problems” that would indicate any reference to problems has been minimized rather than delineated (set out in detail), exposed (highlighted), eulogized (godly praised), or lambasted (emphasized for wrongdoing).

Complete and comprehensive would essentially be saying the same thing and thus complete would not actually add anything. Also, the prose is being distinguished from “rambling” meaning verbose or just keeps going on about nothing. Succinct means to use as few words as needed.

They are not comparing conflicting activities. Prior librarians helped students find books. Modern librarians also have to teach students to evaluate the source of on-line information, which is something new and added to the librarian’s job but does not conflict with and thus is not contrary to past practice. E also has no of but you might have just left out the word that was in the question.
