I just checked the pdf version of my app again. In my essays, when I had a hyphen “bla bla bla–bla bla.” It came out as a weird symbol. Should I have spaced the hypen apart? “Bla bla bla - bla bla.” Crappy formatting!

i wouldnt worry about it too much if its the computer format thing but what i did was instead of the longer - i did two --. Don’t know if that makes since or even answers the question. If its the longer - (can’t remember name) MLA is there shouldnt be a space so it be blah–blah.

I know what you’re talking about–mine did that too, and I use them a lot, so I had to go back through and fix ALL OF THEM. I deleted the funny symbol and just put ‘–’ into the boxes for the essays…'twas a pain, but it looks better that way.

Alas, I probably should have checked the printed application more carefully.

I also put a ™ copyright symbol in one of the essays. It came out as a symbol looking like a grenade, and I only noticed it after I submitted the essay.

Woe is me.

I had the same experience. The Microsoft Word “-'” symbol doesn’t translate well into the App. I also went back and put a “-” manually into the text boxes. Also, even though I was under the character count, a couple of my responses were cut off on the PDF with little scroll bars next to them – since I think they print it out in that format, I had to edit them again to fit.
