Create an account on Comm App

I have never used Comm App before. I am planing to set up an account for my S (a senior). I would like to navigate around a little in the Comm App. I don’t want to make any mistakes like sending out unfinished applications to colleges by accident. Can anyone suggest the dos and donts in term of using Comm App? Thanks.

There is a very extensive process of sending out applications and you should get a lot of confirmations before the app actually gets sent out. I don’t think it’s generally possible to accidentally send out unfinished apps. I don’t think there’s anything that really needs to be taken into account - perhaps reading the instructions on the common app and the supplements carefully.

Use the .pdf Preview and read through everything at least 10 times before clicking Submit! You should be able to get 99% of typos that way.

The essays are required fields; if you don’t enter them, you can’t send the app to anyone. And then you have to designate who gets the app. So at least at the “poking around” stage, there’s no way to send an app accidentally.

Here’s an idea: HAVE YOUR SON DO HIS OWN APPLICATIONS. HAVE HIM FIGURE STUFF OUT HIMSELF.

Nothing makes me madder then parents who do everything for their kids, pay for their apps, give them tons of ****, find colleges for them.

Your kid is seventeen, let him do it himself!

Bigp9998,

I agree with you to a certain level. For me college application is a game that I really hate to play. The stake is so high you as a parent don’t want to be an idealist. Personally, I think the whole thing from college preparation, application and admission is not perfect. For this reason I would not leave college application on my kids. I would like to know the whole process myself and to give them the best support they can get. They better write good essays.

I am with wzzzz on this one. No one is saying that s/he is going to write the application. How about being supportive and helpful? I created an account in my own name and poked around to see what was there. When my son created his own, I had him use a password he would share with me. That way I was able to fill in the parent section.
