Create unique email name

Hi! I want to get some advice about my email ID for college admission. Suppose my name is Sally, which one do you think is the best at sight?

  1. sallytheartist
  2. sallytheachiever
  3. sallyonthestage

I prefer no.3 because I was a dancer. But I want to get some opinion so…

Thank you.

And if I use “archiver”, does it seem “arrogant”? Please tell me this word’s nuance, too. Thank you!

Yes, to me it seems arrogant. So does “onthestage.” It comes across as “look at me!” Most likely your email address doesn’t matter but I always error on the side of being professional.

I would choose something witty and clever. None of these are witty or clever. And so sound pushed.

It will be hard to think of something witty and clever–which is why it’s called “clever”–but if you can do that, then it will make reading your handle a good experience for others.

Since you’re interested in theater, how about adopting and adjusting a Shakespeare quote of some sort? for example.

I see. Then it will be more professional to use my own name email address than create new one like above. Thank you for commenting!

Thank you, Dustyfeathers. I should consider carefully whether I create something new ID. Thanks!

Am I alone in thinking you should just be Sallyjones123?

I would use something professional like FirstNameDotLastName@gmail.com. I think it’s helpful to get your full name in front of people as often as you can. It’s not so helpful for them to have to say “Sally who?” whenever they talk about you.

I agree with @Lindagaf

Use some variation of firstname.lastname or firstnameInitiallastname - no “achiever”- yikes!

Okay. Thank you very much guys.

@NotLeviosaaa - If you are primarily concerned about separating all of the college correspondence from your other emails, make your new account with a different service than you normally use. For example, all the college stuff could be going to firstname.lastname at Yahoo, while your regular professional account is firstname.lastname at gmail.

You received two good suggestions… First, use separate servers for personal versus admissions or business emails. Second, use your name for your email by using your first and last names. Make up very unique password using something very personal such as grandparents phone when you were small with your first dentists initials or team colors in elementary school. I like going very personal combined something really remote. Use the same or similar passwords and stow a copy in a unique place like a Bible or favorite child’s book.

Third reason for a formal email address. Someone from the admissions office may need to reach quickly. Sorting through lots of addresses to find you is a problem when the name is too unique. If I needed to reach you, I would so prefer sally.jones.
