Creative College Essay

Hey guys!
I’ve composed a few rough drafts of college admission essays and I really want to do something unique. Last night a really bizarre but unique idea for an essay popped in my head and I wanted to bounce the idea around a bit.
I have an extremely beat up old nalgene water bottle. This water bottle is quite possibly my life! It goes everywhere with me and is quite a sight. Its covered in stickers, scratches, dirt imbedded in the sides and lots of duct tape. Each unique characteristic of the water bottle represents some story or entity of my life.
I go on 6-8 week long canoe trips each summer and always bring my water bottle. I want to address the fact that the water bottle reminds me of the sense of empowerment these trips give me as well as providing a wonderful reminder of the trip. The water bottle has held water from all over Canada in some of the world’s most secluded rivers and lakes.
I want to highlight how important my trips are along with the quirk of my strange water bottle.
Is this a good possible essay idea? I just want to connect this one simple object with who I am as a person and how it serves as a reminder (in a nutshell)

If it helps, I’m planning on applying to many LAC’s in the west including Whitman, CC, L&C, UPS, etc and want this love of outdoors as an apparent theme within my essay.

Thanks!

I think it’s a great idea. Just make sure to focus on you.

Thanks! So far I have a paragraph on how a huge chip reminds me of overcoming the physical and mental challenges of the trip and how any “real life” comparison is nothing.
The second one I’m currently writing is on the duct tape and how it serves as a reminder to expand my horizons for the duct tape was used the first time I tried canoeing in whitewater. I was initially terrified but overcame the fear and found that expanding my horizons is, in fact, amazing.

I’m having difficulty with the intro. It’s currently set up as a scenario that happened on the first day of my AP Bio class. It was extremely warm and I needed water. My entire class was perplexed by my water bottle and I showed them. I then explain the unique aspects of the water bottle.

Does this make sense?

Thank you very much!
