Does anyone know of essay topics that go beyond the normal “Event that changed life” or “significant person” essay? I’m a junior, but I’m wondering about it now since my AP English class might be looking into them after we take our APs.
Also, how would one make those two topics creative? I’m big on creative writing, so I’ll be interested to hear just about anything.

Mostly_sane, I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of the book On Writing the College Application Essay by Harry Bauld. It has great tips for writing essays, including “topic of your choice” ones. While it may not be very helpful for an AP English class, it will give you a great hand in writing excellent essays for next year.

If you want to remain really creative, I strongly recommend you don’t read too many college essays beforehand. The ‘Topic of your Choice’ really isn’t anything special. It just means you want to write about something that doesn’t fit into one of the other prompts.
