Creative wedding gift for overseas couple?

D and her Fiance are getting married this summer and they are working in Europe. This means they really can not easily receive physical gifts. Complications would involve customes, taxes, and very limited space. Is there any wedding gift ideas for like combining travel with learning, or volunteering, or any other ideas that do not have just money or a trip? Something different ?

How about a European wine-of-the-month club?

Are you attending the wedding in Europe? My DD always takes back a suitcase full of American foods, especially things for cooking Mexican food. Could you take a bag of the foods they miss?

Ah - well they live in Europe but are going to another country in Europe to get married. So, that would be tough to move things around. We did recently visit with goodies from home in our suitcases. I was thinking like a future travel gift I guess could incorporate a volunteer part - or even an academic adventure fun with different areas to visit of wine country…

What country in Europe? If they were in the UK, for example, they might like a one year couples membership in something like the National Trust which would get them into the historic NT properties for free. Other countries will, I imagine, have similar schemes.

Can you order something off the UK Amazon site that they might need? How about an IOU for when they get back to the States?

well- update- in 2013 we got D and SIL a tiny waterproof matches case with a note in it-habitat for humanity international build of their choice, a ‘gift of volunteerism’. they went this summer and really enjoyed it. could not have worked out better.

What a unique gift. Thanks for the update and am so glad they enjoyed it.

We are giving friends who are marrying and moving to Germany some cash and an engraved pewter Christmas ornament with their names, wedding date and location of wedding (Hawaii, or more specifically Oahu).

Back in the day (1985), I got married and my husband and I moved to Germany the next day. Our friends went in together on a gift of a subscription to the Sunday New York Times. It was wonderful. The paper didn’t come on Sunday but that didn’t matter. I did not speak German and was desperate for as many reading materials as possible.

How about a gift card to an airline or railroad if they like to travel?

This is an old thread - OP just posted an update. I am closing the thread.
