Credit card interchange fee lawsuit proposed settlement

Settlement proposed. Includes reduction of interchange fees paid by merchants, and allowing merchants to add surcharges for different classes of credit cards (which currently can have different interchange fees, although the agreement to accept a brand (e.g. Visa, MC) of credit card requires accepting all cards of that brand) or accept only some classes of credit cards. Currently, rewards / premium cards have higher interchange fees than non-rewards cards.

Possible implications of the settlement:

Comparison of interchange fees in various countries. The US is at the higher end compared to the set of countries looked at.
