Checking my credit card statement, I found a very strange charge and I don’t know what to do. Last Thursday I bought a tree and a few more things at my local nursery; yesterday I checked the credit card online and there was a charge for that amount and that day but under different company, I looked at it on the Internet and that company was a supermarket in Florida. Should I called the store or just contact Visa?

I’d call the credit card company. We once had a $200.00 charge from Albertsons’ on one of our statements (we never shop at that store), and a simple call to the number listed on the back of the card took it off (it was their “typo”).

I’ve had that happen before. The store I charged at was under an umbrella of another company (totally unrelated in my mind) and the charge came in under the umbrella name. Since amount and day is exactly the same, I would make a quick call to the store before contacting Visa. You will be able to get an answer at the store faster than Visa and may actually be able to talk to someone here rather than India.

So long as there is just one charge and it is the correct amount you should not have a problem. We quite often have that where we buy, for instance, gas at a local gas station and it appears under a different name on the CC statement. It will just be the name of the larger company that owns the store. If you are worried you can call the store but otherwise don’t worry about it.

^^^ agree with swimcatsmom.

I had bought a magazine from a Tucson, AZ newspaper company. The charge was from a different company name and it was located in Minnesota.

As long as the amount is the same, there is nothing to worry about.

If it’s the correct amount then it’s probably nothing. Quite often the name that appears on the statement won’t be the name of the store (eg some companies use 3rd party processing services or legally trade under a different name than appears outside the store). Keep an eye on it in the coming weeks (as one always should just to be on the looking for anything suspicious) but I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

I found the problem! Credit card fraud. The same amount on the same day was pure coincidence, the local nursery charge is on the statement too, and so many more charges from gas stations (from the Mexican border to Florida), 7-Eleven charges along route 10 and the supermarket; everything in the same day. Visa closed that account and it’s sending me another card with a different account number. This guy must have a huge truck filling the tank several times with more than 120 dollars each time!
I’m angry!
