<p>Total scams - they should be outlawed.</p>
<p>They don’t do a thing for you that you cannot do yourself. You want a lower interest rate on a credit card – call up and ask for one. You want to pay interest <em>and</em> principal – call up and work out a payment plan. The worst thing is not to do anything. </p>
<p>First thing, though, is to check your credit report. Clear up errors and old info – everyone should do it at least once every two to three years.</p>
