Credit card rewards & death of primary cardholder

Any one dealt with this situation?

My Dad died this year and he was the primary cardholder on a citibank reward card. My mother wants to redeem the accumulated reward this fall and per all my phone conversations she may do so, but the form which just arrived shows the primary cardholder needs to sign.

I had not bothered to send them the death certificate as we were just going to redeem the reward and close it.

Can I sign as executor?

If I tell them he died, will they close the card and cancel the rewards?

Did you happen to hold his power of attorney prior to his death? If you did I would sign as power of attorney (with that document attached) and keep the death under wraps until which time you get what you need. I am really a by the book kind of girl, but have realized with my H’s parents estates, sometimes you have to bend them because the hoops you have to jump are crazy.

Hmmm, I think we might have that, I will check
