Credit Union or Bank Account

Which one better suits a college student?

I have one of both, and i can say there really isn’t a diffrence.

interest rates are usually higher for savings and lower for loans through credit unions and one is non-for-profit, while the other isn’t

I just have checking; everything else is in the brokerage account.

Depends on the specific bank and credit union, but generally, if I had a choice between a credit union and a bank, I’ll be more inclined to go with a credit union.

I have two accounts, one at a bank and one at a credit union, and I love my credit union more. It’s not that big of a difference (obviously other than credit unions are not for profit), and I think it’s just my credit union is awesome, and not solely because it’s a credit union.

You can say credit unions might care for their customers more, but it’s not a rule. I wouldn’t say one is better for a college student, because there are other factors to consider than “credit union vs. bank.”

I really like my credit union, it’s more accessible because it’s a lot smaller than the national bank branches.
