Creepiest places on the planet

Halloween is less than 30 days away. The days are becoming shorter, and the air - crispier. Time for a good old scary story. This one caught my eye… I nominate this deserted germ warfare factory the creepiest place on the planet. Beats Chernobyl:

Holy JP Morgan. That is a good one.

Bwahahaha! It is creepy. There is a movie about that forest but I’m too scared to watch it. Perhaps you can rent it for your Halloween viewing pleasure? X_X

Chernobyl is pretty creepy: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/chernobyl-haunting-photos-nuclear-wasteland-gallery-1.1531303?pmSlide=1.1531300

Do they glow in the dark?

Just kidding. Poor pups. It is a very haunted place for sure. At least one can have an idea what is lurking around by having a meter. Can’t do that with deadly germs yet.

The catacombs of Paris are pretty creepy

Apparently, you don’t have to travel to Europe to see some pretty haunted-looking buildings:

The mummified monks are really creepy.

I can’t pinpoint this place. We were in France years ago on vacation (4 adults, 5 young kids for 3 week trip) and friend and I took off in car to roam the area and ditch husbands and kids for a short bit. We’d been short with one another and decided we needed some “mending time” with each other minus kids. Think “girls afternoon out”.

We stopped in a tiny town about 4pm and spotted a castle that was being renovated as a tourist attraction. You could see the work being done in certain areas with scaffolding. . It wasn’t large at all (as castles go). It closed at 5pm. Looked interesting.
Admission was 5 bucks. Bored attendant said “you have an hour–we close at five”
We actually said “don’t lock us in!”

We were the only ones there. Period. Except for a spry cat which followed us around the entire way. Everywhere.
It wasn’t hard to figure out what you were looking at–living quarters, dining, kitchens, chapel etc. Interesting.

We went a few short few steps down some stairs in one corner of the castle (there wasn’t a map yet). There were a few light bulbs.
I to this day can not describe it. We were there before we realized it–just another section of the very small castle.

Dark. Definitely not on the “renovation list” yet.

Cages and small cells as you entered on each side of a narrow walkway. Your brain is going “huh?”
And then we hit a small room at the end with branding irons and fire pits and a rack. Chains. And all sorts of things that I’ve tried to avoid seeing even in movies.
A real life torture chamber.

I won’t forget the chills as I looked around more closely at what we had encountered.
Believe me…We couldn’t get out of there fast enough. We couldn’t hardly relate the experience because it was so surreal.

And if anyone wants to know–the “tingly sense” exists.

The cat didn’t follow us into that spot…but she followed us out…

@fractalmstr - How cool. I once (late eighties) ran into someone who claimed to know how to enter one of those tunnels of this Metro2.

The Capuchin Crypt in Rome. Skulls and bones.

The Lizzie Borden house - bed and breakfast - is pretty creepy

We also were among the last people out at an amusement park - https://www.storylandnh.com/

The park closed at 6, but we were in the gift shop and didn’t notice everyone leaving, then at 6 the register was long, when we packed up we had to run back to the far end to retrieve DD’s stuffed animal, she left it at one of the rides. Walking through the abandoned amusement park was super creepy - it felt like a Scooby Doo episode.

In a small rural cemetery near my hometown, there is a headstone that says something like:

John Doe
Killed by Human Wolves
Date of birth/death

I have seen it, it really exists. All the kids go there at night to get scared. As I recall, it was the grave of a child, so I think perhaps the devastating death (however it occurred) led to that inscription, not the fact that someone actually thought they were killed by werewolves.
