Which university has a stronger academic?

I’m drawn to both schools, but more so to Creighton, but my dad is against it as he believes Omaha, NE is a racist city and dangerous.

Thank you.

Hello! I went to undergrad at Creighton, and I currently live in Chicago. Which school is stronger academically? In part, that depends on what you think you want to study. Overall, DePaul is a much larger institution with more academic opportunities. In general, Creighton excels at the health sciences. That said, I had classmates at CU who attended great law schools, entered competitive graduate programs in a variety of non-health-related fields, or immediately entered the workforce with good jobs. I imagine the same is true of DePaul grads. Is Omaha more racist or dangerous than Chicago? Of course, Omaha is less diverse, but 25% of its population is non-“White.” The university has increased in racial diversity over the last decade, too. When I was there, I had friends/roommates who were Latino, Filipino, Black, etc. In terms of danger, just like Chicago there are certain neighborhoods you avoid. I never felt unsafe on campus, and the downtown area is as safe/more safe than downtown Chicago. You should visit both campuses and find opportunities to ask students–especially students you come across as you walk around–what their experiences have been like (Don’t rely solely on your guides or people you are scheduled to meet). Try to schedule a meeting with students who are studying what you want to study. Ask about what graduates do after graduation. I enjoyed my Creighton experience, but you have to do some research to find the right fit for you. Best of luck!

*

What does your dad base this on? I’m wondering why he would think that Chicago would be less of a problem.

Anyway…if you’re going to be pre-med or similar, then Creighton is the way to go…it’s like one big pre-med school…lol

What is your major?

Creighton is a Jesuit school, so you’ll surely get a great education there.

What is it about DePaul that you like?

Have you received your FA packages from either school? Do you know if both are affordable?

I applied to Creighton and DePaul for a major in philosophy, but I intend to pursue a double major with psychology. DePaul offered me a scholarship of $42,000; $10,500 each year, which is renewable, provided that certain requirements are met in a period of time. … But adding the costs of housing and meals at DePaul, to the tuition fees, the cost of attending Creighton and DePaul are pretty much the same.

Creighton operates on the semester system while DePaul on the quarter system, and I’m still not sure which system is the right choice for me.

Is it true that outside Nebraska, Creighton is quite an unheard of university?

*

???

What do you mean by that? Are you saying that you could commute to Creighton? If not, then DePaul would still be a lot less.

Creighton

tuition and fees: $30,578
Room and board: $9,164

Books and supplies: $1,200

About $40k plus travel and personal expenses

DePaul

Out-of-state tuition and fees: $28,858
Room and board: $10,955

Books and supplies: $1,134

about $41k…minus $10,500 in merit…about $31k per year.

So, they’re not about the same.

And, no, it’s not true that Creighton is unheard of outside of Nebraska
